Worst Oscars in HIstory. James Franco and Anne Hathaway were terrible.

Okay, that explains why I don't remember this. I didn't watch the Oscars that year, on account of TDK getting the shaft. I was so upset that I boycotted the Awards that year.

@bawnian-dexeus Absolutely. This happened in February 2009, right?

@bawnian-dexeus What did she host with Jackman?

@ejk1 Add some Nolan magic in there, and I think we're gonna be in for a real treat, my friend :D

Seriously. Her singing surprised me. I no longer have any doubts about Hathaway. The role of Selina Kyle is probably in the most capable hands it could possibly be.

@dan1 What's funny is that i never heard Newman's song in the film

@ejk1 Oh yes, I forgot that, she also had a wonderful singing voice.

I gotta say, Hathaway impressed me tonight. Telling jokes, singing, etc. Really did leave a great impression.

    @dan1 Agreed.

True Grit. 10 Nominations. 0 Wins.

The turning point and the color purple top that feat with 11 nominations and no wins.

The Oscars was a mixed bag for me this year. I was happy to see Firth, Portman, and Bale win, the 3 of them deserved those honors wholeheartedly. Leo did not. Steinfeld or Adams, either of them deserved it more, as I felt their performances had more passion to them. Leo was a bitch on screen, and off, and that totally turns me off from her. Just get bad vibes from that woman, and I was very disappointed.

I was also disappointed that I See the Light lost to Newman. I thought for sure Tangled would at least get that win, since it was a bona fide, true blue throw back to the more classic Disney movies, and it would have been a nice change of pace to see Pixar NOT dominate with everything it is nominated for. Newman's song was entirely forgettable (I've already forgotten it), and that was another travesty to me.

King's Speech winning Best Picture was a good surprise to me, as I thought with the OBNOXIOUS hype TSN received, it had it in the bag. Don't get me wrong, I love TSN, it's a great movie, but the people hyping it needed a reality check, and they got one.

Tom Hooper winning the Best Director Oscar was surprising as well, as I thought surely that Fincher had it. Now he'll have to wait a number of years for that chance again, with the films he's got lined up.

Inception rightfully cleaned up in the technical departments. Still a big f*ck you from me to the Academy though over the Editing snub. Of all the technical areas it deserved to win, that was the biggest, and they totally screwed the pooch on that one. Morons.

On the hosts, Anne Hathaway was consistently charming and gracious and naturally funny to me, she seemed to really be in a celebratory mood and happy to be doing her job. James Franco seemed to be going through all the motions, and bringing nothing to the table really. He really did get outshined by his female partner in crime tonight. Hathaway/RDJ, Hathaway/Jackman, even Hathaway/Crystal (wouldn't that be something) would be marvelous in the future. Talented, funny young lady. Looking forward to that Catwoman!!!

And the best announcer and jokester of the night? Mr. Kirk Douglas by a mile. Hitting on Hathaway was priceless.

@k-man Honestly, Movieweb might have stole the idea for this from ComicBookMovie.com. They've had a chat like this for month's now. The Daily Blam has one too.

  22. Cripple

Fincher got robbed. Nobody will still be talking about The Kings Speech ten years from now. Is it a great movie? Yes. Did Hooper do a good job? Yes, but so could a lot of directors with that movie. Social Network and Fincher should have walked away with Oscars.

@jptheredskull It must have been those "self financed/for your consideration" photos she gave to the academy....

@moviegeek i know your right. Add that to the fact that she is a new comer and so young and the cards were really stacked against her. I just thought that would be the catagory that the acadamy would throw True Grit a bone.

  28. Dan

@moviegeek Yes, Leo was utterly terrible... that was the worst speech/moment of the night, to me.

This live chat is pretty cool. Maybe it's a good thing for Movieweb to keep up for miscellaneous movie chat......start the trend for other sites.
