Lionsgate Set for Updated Dirty Dancing

Lionsgate is gearing up for a remake of the 1987 classic Dirty Dancing and has set Julia Dahl (Uptown Girls) to work on the script, according to Production Weekly.

The original starred Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey as a young woman in the summer where she meets Johnny Castle (Swayze) who teaches dance at a family Summer Camp and in his off hours Dirty Dances with the other dancers. She learns a routine so that one of the women can recover from an abortion and becomes Johnny's lover.

No production date has been set.

It will most likely be a data chip than a file. Technology is growing to fast, next thing we know we'll be like the Borg or worse yet, Terminated by robots.
I would never put a chip in my head.

wolf92, do you really think the younger generation gives a crap about our nostalgia or if they're interested in leaving the classic films alone?

Hell, everything is going digital now. Soon film won't even exist anymore(thanks again George Lucas!). Pretty soon, people will be saying, "Hey did you catch that new file"? Everything is being too mass marketed these days. Damn shame!

SWAK1774, Are you serious!? Saturday Night Fever!!!??? I hadn't heard that. DAMN!!! What are they thinking?! That is the Holy Grail of '70s movies!! Gene Siskel is surely turning in his grave right now!!

Zac Efron in polyester? I think not!!!

Yeah Ottley, you're probably right about that casting. Whoever is the flavor of the month, just throw them in there, slap the title on it and get the dolls just in time for Christmas!

The original was made for a measly $6 million, and went on to gross over $200 million worldwide. It also became the first film ever to sell a million copies on video and won several Golden Globes. You'd think the studio would have learned its lesson already, and not mess with a good thing.

Just like SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER (which I've read is being remade also) this should be left alone.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO, by the way Tin man and a few other films were based on The Wizard of Oz years ago.
I have the original to this, I refused to see the second film and I'll refuse to see the remake. If any of you want to see something else, film festival mean anything to you.
Just rent films and avoid the remakes.

I'm getting sick of Hollywood... They'll probably make it into a disney movie, they need to stop messing with classics. What's next? The wizard of Oz???

Okay, this should not even be touched, this film is an instant classic...
I'm open to remakes as long as they aint classics, but this film is amazingly done, if you haven't seen it i highly recommend.

This is like an equivalence to remaking casablanca or Gone with the wind.

Knowing Hollywood they will update this to some teenage version with Vanessa Hudgens or Demi Lovato in the female lead.

    Vanboy said it beautifully
    "The original is perfect'

I have to say, I totally agree with what everybody is saying here. And I'm the one open to some remakes. If everyone if "US" can agree with this, you know that in all that is Holy, this remake must not happen. The original was perfect. Then that sh*tty Havana Nights came out. And geuss what...FAIL!!!! "Nobody re-puts Baby in the corner"!!!!
