Liam Neeson to play Hannibal in The A-Team
Liam Neeson is in talks to star as Col. John "Hannibal" Smith in 20th Century Fox's long-gestating bigscreen adaptation The A-Team. Bradley Cooper is in early talks to play Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Peck.

According to Variety, the Joe Carnahan-directed film is based on the 1980s TV series and will go into production in late August for a June 11, 2010, release.

Ridley Scott is producing with Jules Daly and series creator Stephen J. Cannell, with Tony Scott exec producing through Scott Free. Carnahan and Brian Bloom polished a script by Skip Woods, whose recent script credits include G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Neeson is in talks to play Hannibal, the role originated by George Peppard, while Cooper would play "Faceman," the role played by Dirk Benedict.

Carnahan, Fox and Scott Free have kept the series premise -- four war vets wrongly convicted of armed robbery escape from a military prison to become do-gooder mercenaries -- but they've replaced the campy nature of the series with a tone closer to those of Mission: Impossible and Ocean's Eleven.

Still to be cast are the roles of Capt. "Howling Mad" Murdock, played by Dwight Schultz in the original, and Sgt. "B.A." Baracus, the role that made Mr. T an '80s icon.

The A-Team was released June 11th, 2010 and stars Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Jessica Biel, Quinton Jackson, Sharlto Copley, Patrick Wilson, Gerald McRaney, Henry Czerny. The film is directed by Joe Carnahan.

    hmmm...mercenaries...los angeles underground...a crime story...
GIVE THIS TO MICHAEL MANN. He will beef this up!

SMOKING ACES and NARC was day & night. NARC was amazing, ACES was fireworks.
i'm disturbed by the line "tone closer to MISSION IMPOSSIBLE & OCEANS 11".
It's clear hollywood doesn't care about the adult demographic, just the kiddies buying popcorn and ACTION FIGURES!

I'm liking that last bit in the second to last paragraph. A tone of that nature sounds better for this 21st Century '80s TV Adaptation...but what do i know? my only experience with "The A-Team" is knowing the name for over a decade, and the "Family Guy" A-Team spoof in an episode i've got on dvd. lolz! nevertheless, it still sounds like it'll be a good flick.

Love the idea of tone change. BA could be, Rock, Ice Cube, or Vin Raimes. Murdock, Jim Carey, the guy from my name is earl.

I don't know who are or what you want.
If you're looking for money, I'll tell you I have none.
But what i do have is a particular set of gentlemen. If you can find them. They're for hire.
If you let the old man go.
That'll be the end of it.
But if not we will get hired. We will find you. And, unless it's a two part episode, we will kill you.

wow either neeson is burying himself in work to avoid sadness or just doesn't care that his wife is dead.

    i wonder which.

Yes! I love Liam Neeson! This is going to be a good choice because they are going to make this film on a more serious note than the tv show (though I enjoyed the show). I'm expecting a lot of action and a good story here. I hope all turns out well.

Well Joe Carnahan is pretty awesome. If you guys so Smokin Aces or Narc then you know what I mean. Liam Neeson and Bradley Cooper would be alright from what I've seen of the show.

I'm not sure on Howling Mad, but Ice Cube said he's interested in playing B.A. Baracus. Never know.

i'm sure it will not be as campy as the show and im sure he's just trying to stay busy with work to keep his mind from going places he rather not

  18. Illuminati

if this is going to my only fear is the creative input from the G.IJOE gang. I don't have to watch the movie to know what kinda kiddie-action-blitz they are catering to. G.I JOE will be crap.

  20. The Narrator: The Better Man

Liam and Cooper are great additions. I hope Chris Pine joins and maybe the Rock for B.A. I honestly can't find anyone to fit his role.

The only think I'm worried about is the writer. G.I. Joe looks corny, cool, but corny, and Wolverine was terrible compared to the comics. Here's hoping that with this cast, they get it right.
