Leonardo DiCaprio Refuses to Promote Titanic 3D

In the first few months of 2012, we will see 3D conversions for the upcoming theatrical re-releases of Beauty and the Beast, Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, and Titanic. All were big hits upon their initial run. And all will surely dominate the box office charts throughout the first quarter of the New Year. Especially if last fall's The Lion King 3D release is any indication. That movie was number one at the box office throughout September, and pulled in $94.2 million.

People know these films, and fans will flock to see their past favorites rendered in 3D, even without a huge publicity push from the studios. So it should come as no surprise that Leonardo DiCaprio would rather stay at home and relax than jump on the junket circuit to promote the 1997 drama that made him a world famous superstar. For a long time, it was the number one movie in the history of cinema. It doesn't really need to be sold to the masses. We know what they are getting.

Though 20th Century Fox would like to have the actor out promoting the film, he has decided to sit this one out. A source close to the actor had this to say about his unwillingness to participate in the celebration of this timeless classic.

"Leo is not one for looking back. He's proud of Titanic but it was 15 years ago. He doesn't relish having to go back and promote that movie all over again, especially as it probably won't need it."

It would be fun to hear Leonardo DiCaprio reminisce about the making of this legendary romantic drama. But all you really need to know is that Titanic 3D will be back in theaters starting April 6th, 2012.

Titanic was released April 4th, 2012 and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Billy Zane, Kathy Bates, Frances Fisher, Gloria Stuart, Bill Paxton, Bernard Hill. The film is directed by James Cameron.

I think the reason lion king had a good box office besides good it was it also because it haven't been shown on tv for a long while plus most people probably still had the vhs version of the movie.

3D isn't much to write home about anyway (really just a gimmick that stole the shine away from the real innovative idea of filming in IMAX), but not to mention an old film from 1997 being converted.

Maybe he'll change his mind about returning to Titanic when I send him a draft of the sequel I'm writing. Titanic: Revenge of Jack Frost is the working title. Keywords: Frozen in ice, time travel, zombies and Kate Winslet boob.

Dunno how I feel about this. Little bit of an ego on his part, but I can see why he doesn't want to.

Good for Leo. Why waste three months promoting something that already scored 1.8bil 15yrs ago. Waste of time, and time is money! :P

This seems less a case of him "refusing" to promote it and more of just not wanting to make an effort to do so. The title of the article makes it sound like he's boycotting this release.

He's always had a love-hate relationship with the movie because of the enormous thrust into the limelight he got at the time. I bet if it was 'Gilbert Grape' or 'The Basketball Diaries' or 'This Boy's Life', he'd probably be more amenable to helping promote those again.
