Production Weekly recently tweeted that high-profile actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, and Amanda Seyfried are rumored to be a part of The Great Gatsby movie.

The tweet indicated that Leonardo DiCaprio would play Jay Gatsby, Tobey Maguire would portray Nick Carraway and Amanda Seyfried would take on the role of Daisy Buchanan. We reported way back in December of 2008 that Baz Luhrmann would direct the movie, although it seems that he's torn between this and another mystery project.

MTV Movies Blog caught up with Baz Luhrmann, and while he wouldn't comment on the casting rumors, he did say that he would have to choose between The Great Gatsby and another movie as his next project. Here's what he told the site:

"The rumors are out! I've got two going. One is a musical and one is a period work, both based in New York City, and I'm about to make that decision. I've got the script for both of them and I'm making that decision in four to six weeks, no longer than six weeks," he teased, adding that Gatsby had no plans to add some singing. "Singing 'Gatsby'? No! 'Gatsby,' it is the Fitzgerald book and I've been working on that quite a lot. The other one is also New York based and music-driven and it's just a question of ... what is the next right step for me."

The site couldn't get any additional information about the musical project from Baz Luhrmann, but it seems we can expect his decision in the near future.

The Great Gatsby comes to theaters December 25th, 2012 and stars Carey Mulligan, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke, Callan McAuliffe, Gemma Ward. The film is directed by Baz Luhrmann.

I just finished the book. I don't really know what to make of it, but I do think all three (Maguire, DiCaprio, Seyfried) would fit into the 20s setting comfortably.

I think Leo would actually be better as Nick Carraway, but that's just me. It'd be nice tho to see a version that doesn't suck-so here's hoping.

a musical would be a pigeon hole move since that's his bread and butter. i'd love to see a well done musical in NYC, so i won't complain if he goes that direction. Gatsby cast sounds pretty solid, though and the story has gotta be solid b/c Leo wouldn't agree to it if it wasnt. either way Gatsby will be made, just with a different director if not baz. can't wait to see what he decides!

Interesting. No wait, boring. That book annoyed the hell out of me. The cold way the characters are portrayed always left me feeling like I read an ice cube. Dicaprio and Maguire can find a better use for their considerable talents.

GATSBY! I mean Baz did great with Moulin Rouge, but this film really sounds like it has potential. I say he should go for it.
