Leonard Nimoy Doesn't Think He'll Return for Star Trek 2
With J.J. Abrams' Star Trek arriving on DVD and Blu-ray this week, the actors and creators hit the red carpet to celebrate the release. One of the people we got a chance to chat with was Leonard Nimoy, who, of course, plays Spock Prime in the film. The actor told us he was excited to appear in this new incarnation of the franchise, but doubts he will return for a sequel.

"I am very happy with the direction J.J. took this particular film. He has a great cast, and he's in great shape. I was fortunate enough to work with an exceptional group of actors, and the fans really seemed to enjoy the film." He continued by telling us, "I don't think there is room for me to return in a sequel. I don't think they need me. I am happy to see Zachary continue on with the role. I don't believe a second film would benefit from me being a part of it. If J.J. asked me to come back, I would consider it. But I don't think it is necessary, nor do I think that is part of J.J.'s plan."

Nimoy also recently worked with J.J. on the Fox series Fringe. He shot three episodes for season two, two of which have already aired. When asked about his character William Bell, Nimoy told us, "I have no plans to return in the near future." Does that mean we've seen the last of the ominous Bell? "We'll have to wait and see."

Look for our full video interview with Leonard Nimoy in the very near future. Star Trek arriving on DVD and Blu-ray now!

Star Trek 2 comes to theaters May 17th, 2013 and stars Zoe Saldana, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, John Cho. The film is directed by J.J. Abrams.

Nimoy told us, "I have no plans to return in the near future."...
he shouldn't have even been in the FIRST one!

The movie was good, and so is nimoy but the time travel double was a little cheesy.
Since the producers went in a new direction & retelling the series, they need to 'separate' the former actors with the NEW CHARACTERS.
Cameo's are fine but not when they are connected to the older movies SO directly. It's like having Jack Nicholson as a Mob boss in the next batman film would work, but not with a JOKER connection!

Zachary Q was very good. And I agree, never replace the original, but damn did a fine job. I was really impressed with Urban also as Bones.

Class act. I enjoyed the hell out of the new Star Trek. I thought Zachary Q. did a great job filling those shoes... never be another Leonard Nimoy. I hope they keep it up with the fun, action, space drama... I'm going to guess Spocks brother is dead with Vulcan and hopefully they'll never have to save whales again.

Very true. This could all fall into place very nicely, if done correctly. As long as JJ Abrams does just a great job as the first. Hopefully, it will continue...for many years to come for everyone to enjoy.

I think bringing Pike back is more prevalent to the second film than Nimoy. Let him go back to his Shat-tastic universe. He was too good in this movie to come back.

I hope he'll return in atleast one future installment, if they get that far.

Nimoy being in the first movie was great, and I was very happy to see him. Second film hopefully will be just as great with or without him, either way, very good start.

If nothing else this means his cameo won't run the risk of being forced.

Yeah, I agree with him. Although, it wouldn't be out of the question for him to narrate the beginning and/or the end of the next film.
