Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl) is in negotiations to star in the Sony Screen Gems thriller The Roommate. Christian E. Christiansen is directing, and Roy Lee and Doug Davison's Vertigo Entertainment is producing, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The story follows Sara (Meester), a college student who is randomly assigned to a freshman dorm with a stranger named Rebecca. Things turn deadly when Rebecca becomes obsessed and begins targeting people in Sara's life.

The role of Rebecca has not been cast.

No production date has been set.

The Roommate was released February 1st, 2011 and stars Leighton Meester, Cam Gigandet, Matt Lanter, Billy Zane, Minka Kelly, Danneel Harris, Katerina Graham, Alyson Michalka. The film is directed by Christian E. Christiansen.
