Lavish Special Edition of The Wizard of Oz Coming October 25

Movie PictureAccording to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Home Video is preparing a lavish special edition of The Wizard of Oz for release Oct. 25, the studio said Wednesday.

The classic 1939 film will be available both as a two-disc special edition and as a three-disc collector's edition that comes with an additional disc of bonus material, including a new documentary about Oz author L. Frank Baum.

Oz was released on DVD in October 1999 as a single disc. Both versions of the upcoming Oz DVD release will include a new digital transfer of the original movie using Warner's proprietary Ultra-Resolution technology. The soundtrack has been remastered as well. Special features include a new commentary from historian John Fricke; four documentaries, including one on the restoration process; outtakes and deleted scenes; home movies made on the Oz set by composer Harold Arlen; and an Oz Jukebox of recording session materials, radio shows and promo spots.

The Wizard of Oz was released August 15th, 1939 and stars Judy Garland, Frank Morgan, Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr, Jack Haley, Billie Burke, Margaret Hamilton, Charley Grapewin. The film is directed by Victor Fleming, Mervyn LeRoy, Richard Thorpe, King Vidor.
