Earlier this month, it was confirmed that screenwriter Michael Arndt will write the script for Star Wars: Episode VII, based on his 50-page treatment that includes classic characters such as Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Han Solo (Harrison Ford), and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher). Today, we have word that Billy Dee Williams' Lando Calrissian is also included in the treatment.
Star Wars: Episode VII will feature Lando Calrissian
We also know that this story takes place years after Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, so it makes sense that Lando is a part of the story. It isn't known how large his role is in the overall scheme of things, or if Billy Dee Williams will return, although we would have to imagine that he is chomping at the bit to reprise his famous role. In the original screenplay for Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, Lando died during the attack on the second Death Star.
The big question of who will direct Star Wars: Episode VII remains to be seen. Filmmakers such as Matthew Vaughn and Colin Trevorrow have been mentioned, although we have far more director denials than potential candidates. Top-flight directors such as Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino, and Brad Bird have taken themselves out of the running in recent weeks.
