Laeta Kalogridis to Adapt Ghost in the Shell 3D

Laeta Kalogridis has signed on to adapt the Japanese manga Ghost in the Shell 3D, a futuristic police thriller that for DreamWorks is turning into a 3D live-action film.

According to Variety, Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Steven Paul of Seaside Entertainment are attached to produce and originally brought the project to DreamWorks.

Created by Masamune Shirow, "Ghost in the Shell" was first published in 1989. It went on to generate two more manga editions, three anime film adaptations and an anime TV series. The second anime film, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence was released in the U.S. by DreamWorks in 2004.

Jamie Moss was the original writer hired when DreamWorks bought the property last year.

No production date has been set.

Ghost in the Shell 3D was released in 2010.

3D? I hate this 3D sh*t. I'm happy about Ghost in the shell as long as they don't ruin it.

geek, rent Monsters VS Aliens, and watch the making of featurette. In it director Rob Letterman talks about how "this 3D is not you father's 3D, and that this one is here to stay". The technology has been perfected. That wasn't the case when in the past, it took on the red and blue incarnations. This 3D is a stereoscopic technology, that flashes the slightly offset images alternately, at such a high speed, that it tricks the eyes to see only one three dimensional image.

The complaining might as well stop, because the advent of True HD 3D is upon us, and it's not going away. Besides, why get so pissed about it? I just don't get the anger of it.

Hell yesssss! They better make this with American ideologies and interests. I have and love the movies and would love this to be done in live action. Being a Terminator fan, Ghost in the Shell ranks right up there too.

    Can't wait!!

And where's Akira? That was supposed to be on its way too.

Ah. Ghost in the Shell. What an awsome anime. Have to agree with others, does it really need to be in 3D? I don't think so. To Oli and SleepingShane, you two are idiots for thinking the that the Matrix and Ghost in the Shell are simiar. Ghost in the Shell has a better story, and it came out be the Matrix, those guys ripped off GITS.

The world is officially over, does this really need to be 3D.

This will be transformed from Spectacle artistic futuristuic imagery to 3D garbage in the bottom of the trashcan.

Also there is subside to this, isn't Spielberg attached to direct GITS, and that article came from Variety too, as who is directing.

Despite i dont see this progressing anywhere any way...Unless in the hands off the director of Casshern & Goemon, Kiriyua, i think his name is.

This needs a Japanese or Korean attached to direct & write, not an American
