Kristen Stewart Fired from the Snow White and the Huntsman Sequel

Universal Pictures pulls Kristen Stewart from the Snow White and the Huntsman sequel
Back in June, we reported that Universal Pictures is putting the sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman on the fast track. Stars Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, and Charlize Theron already had deals in place to return for a follow-up, with Rupert Sanders in early talks to direct. However, that was before Kristen Stewart and Rupert Sanders' cheating scandal, which has altered the studio's plans. Universal is now moving forward on a new spin-off that focuses only on Chris Hemsworth's Huntsman, with Kristen Stewart being left by the wayside.

We reported in April that screenwriter David Koepp was brought on to craft the sequel. Sources indicate that the studio is buying him out of his contract, since this altered project is vastly different than the one he had been hired to write. One insider believes that Rupert Sanders will return to direct, although that is not set in stone yet.

Universal's original plan was to feature two movies with both Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth's characters, before creating a spin-off with just the Huntsman. It seems this scandal has forced the studio to skip ahead one step. They are currently seeking a new writer, with hopes to start shooting by July.

Snow White and the Huntsman was released June 1st, 2012 and stars Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Sam Claflin, Sam Spruell, Ian McShane, Bob Hoskins, Ray Winstone. The film is directed by Rupert Sanders.

I totally agree with @thedude-abides. Also, why is Rupert Sanders not taking any of the heat? He was married, she wasn't. Doesn't make it right but just as bad. She loses her job and he gets signed on for the sequel? Gross.

Pretty sexist if you ask me.

Forgive me in the event I repeat anything that's already been said (haven't read all the posts), but I've never been a fan of studios/directors firing talent because of their personal endeavors. Charlie Sheen is one thing, that's completely understandable; but jumping on Oprah's couch or having an affair is hardly enough reason to be fired from a film.

If she were conducting herself in a disruptive fashion, being late to set, not being conducive to a working environment, etc., okay; but a personal matter that has no impact on her working life whatsoever aside from drawing a little unnecessary attention to herself, which is a misnomer given her career choice, I don't agree with. My personal feelings.

@mcleve02 I left a little thought about the film on the first page. I think that firing Kristin is kind of underhanded. It takes two to Tango and I would have held the boss accountable.

I did not see this movie so I cannot comment on if it was good or not and I dont care.

I have read on other sites however, that the whole firing of Kristin Stew is a bit premature. Other sites are now claiming that the authot handed in a sequel to this and moved on. Also they were planning to spin Huntsman off anyway but have no script for that yet.

It appears that the studio has not made a final decision just yet.

@felipe-11 Just his vision with Avatar I think is what put him in mind for me... I feel like he could do Halo very well...

I am hopeful they get good people... Some of the greatest stories ever told are in our video games... I wish they could make that happen

@mcleve02 Hmm, I'd never thought of Cameron for Halo (I've always thought Peter Jackson or Neil Blomkamp), but Cameron would definitely direct the sh*t out of a Halo movie too! They're releasing a live-action Halo web mini-series now (Halo: Forward Unto Dawn) that actually looks really great. I suspect a movie can't be more than 4 or 5 years away...

But yeah, they need that type of talent for these types of movies, not talentless hacks like Paul W.S. Anderson and such...

  19. THE JOKER

@felipe-11 They are no where near ready to do Halo... I could see James Cameron doing that film a number of years from now... I think as long as you get some one brilliant like our Nolan's on them, the would be great! They really haven't had someone like that on these projects... When that happens, I think that will be when we see them succeed a lot better.

@mcleve02 They could make a great movie if the wanted to. But honestly, Hollywood is still too young in the video-game adaptation department. The most "successful" videogame franchise they've had so far are the Resident Evil movies, and look how thats turning out.
They need to do work things out much more before they move onto bigger stuff life Fallout, Mass Effect or Halo. Just like it happened with comic book adaptations that have gotten better and better throughout the years, hopefully video game movies will really kick off at some point too.

  21. THE JOKER

@felipe-11 Yeah, but they make plenty of successful films from games and such... I'm sure Bethesda would have no problem having a film made from that... Deep down you have to admit, if it were done correctly, that would be one hell of a film... He already did the voice for him, get Liam Neeson to play James!

@mcleve02 But now you're talking about buying the rights for a franchise, whereas Snow White is public domain, meaning minimum investment, maximum profit, AKA "the Hollywood way to do business!"

  24. THE JOKER

@felipe-11 There is no sequel needed... they are seeing dollar signs and they are going after it using Chris' name because they know he is loved... Story wise, totally not even remotely needed... make a Fallout movie based off of Fallout 3 or something like that... that would be a kick ass movie... except get a different director for that film...

  25. felipe-11

@daveactor7@mcleve02 Agreed, I don't really care about the affair but if they're gonna fire people it should be both of em.

Although I liked this film and I guess Rupert is bringing in more directing talent than Kirsten is bringing in acting talent, so it makes sense...

Also, a sequel for this is totally unnecessary.

I am sorry, both Kristen and Rupert need to be taken off. Who cares if Hollywood has done this crap forever... it's about time studios make a move on these things... She was and is an awful actress... she is so dry and shows zero emotion... she should be fired for that alone... I'm sorry for all the Twilight fan fairies out there, but she straight up sucks.... How in the hell anyone even remotely enjoys watching her is beyond me... I guess people are blind to skill... Then, she is going to come out and pull crap like this with the director... I am sorry she made the studio look bad, and so did he... both should be fired... get them the f*ck off of the pedestal that everyone always puts Hollywood stars and and treat them like people who have done something wrong... I clap you Universal for removing her! Now get your thumbs out of your asses and get rid of Rupert as well...
