King Kong at Comic-Con International
Today Movieweb had the pleasure of attending a panel discussion about one of the most anticipated movies of the year, King Kong. Adrien Brody, Jack Black and Naomi Watts all were in attendance to talk about the film. Peter Jackson, the films director, was still in New Zealand doing post production work on the movie. However, he was there in spirit, courtesy of a taped introduction in which we got to see the films trailer, and he concluded that by asking the audience if they wanted to see more of his movie.

Jackson will bring his sweeping cinematic vision to the iconic story of the gigantic ape-monster captured in the wilds and brought to civilization where he meets his tragic fate. The screenplay by Jackson, Walsh and Boyens is based on the original story by Merian C. Cooper and Edgar Wallace, which became the classic 1933 RKO Radio Pictures film, directed by adventurers Cooper and Ernest B. Schoesdack. Jackson will employ the latest motion picture technology to cinematically portray the timeless tale of the beast and his beauty. He will expand on the chapters of the tale that take place in the mysterious and dangerous jungles of Skull Island, and his Kong promises to be a unique and breathtaking creation.

As the panel continued, we got to see more of the film with an unfinished scene of a fight between King Kong and a bunch of T-Rexes. King Kong and the T-Rexes are fighting and they fall off a cliff on to some vines. King Kong and a T-Rex eventually become untangled and they resume their battle on the ground. Naomi Watts just tries to stay out of the way as she watches this magnificent spectacle unfold before her very eyes. King Kong eventually tears the T-Rex apart much to the enjoyment of all in attendance at this panel discussion. While this segment was rough, it did have enough there with the images to show that the finished scene, when it plays in the final film, should be pretty amazing.

While the panel discussion seemed to be all about Jack Black and his upcoming projects, it is easy to see that everyone involved in this movie feels that they have participated in something very special. King Kong seems to be one of those rare films that has merged both ideas of art and commerce, and in doing so a film has been made that transcends any easy categorization.
