Kick-Ass Sequel Being Readied for 2012 Release?

Kick-Ass sequel in 2012?
Kick-Ass sequel in 2012?
We haven't heard much at all about a sequel to Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass and it seems the follow-up will hit the comic book stands first. Forces of Geek ran a new press release for a new venture by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. entitled CLiNT Magazine, which revealed that a sequel is being planned. Here's an excerpt from the press release below.

"Millar is also launching his sequel to the hit Kick-Ass movie in the first issue of the comic. "Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall" has been scheduled for production in 2011 for a 2012 cinema release, but fans of the first movie can find out what happens two years in advance by picking up CLiNT."

The press release is made even more intriguing with the news yesterday that Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn has officially signed on to direct X-Men: First Class, which is being fast-tracked for a June 3, 2011 release. It is possible that if Vaughn starts filming this summer or fall, that he could possibly be ready to take the helm on a Kick-Ass sequel.

We'll be sure to keep you posted with any and all Kick-Ass sequel developments and you can Click Here! to learn more about Millar and Romita Jr.'s CLiNT Magazine endeavor.

Kick-Ass was released April 16th, 2010 and stars Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, Nicolas Cage, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Clark Duke, Evan Peters, Garrett M. Brown, Deborah Twiss. The film is directed by Matthew Vaughn.

I'm surprised this movie didn't do as well as it did. I personally have missed the good ol hard R movies, they seem few and between these days.

Greatest moment in Kick Ass? Hit Girl rescuing Big Daddy and Kick Ass from being tortured. Funny, badass action, and emotional moment at the end of it. Perfect.

Kick-Ass lived up to the billing! I just saw it and I thought it was wrong on so many levels :) but because of that it made it more realistic and more enjoyable. GREAT MOVIE!!

With First Class out in 2011 and Kick Ass 2's production scheduled in 2011 then things will get a bit interesting. Although Vaughn isn't confirmed for Kick Ass 2. Hopefully he will direct it. Kick Ass was just Fantastic and left me wanting more.

The movie was great but it sucks that Nicolas Cage can't be in the sequel. He was great in Kick Ass.

I was disappointed with the movie. The whole point of the comic was to deconstruct the superhero archetype not sensationalize it. In the source material people got hurt, no one wins, the guy does NOT get the girl. The end of the comic was very visceral and mostly hand to hand combat. The jet pack and the rocket launcher were just stupid, explosions for explosions sake. The movie started out good but seemed to forget what it was doing half way through. And Big Daddy looked horrible in the movie. He didn't dress like Batman in the comic, he wore body armor and carried a chainsaw.
