'Kick-Ass 2' Director Jeff Wadlow Wanted for 'Fast & Furious 7'

'The Lincoln Lawyer' director Brad Furman and 'The Karate Kid' remake's Harald Zwart are also in the running.

Justin Lin, who has been with The Fast and the Furious franchise since the third installment The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, leading up to this summer's Fast & Furious 6, has had to drop out of directing Fast & Furious 7. The reason is because the movie is moving too fast towards production, and the director would have to start preproduction work while he's still working to get Fast & Furious 6 ready for its May 2013 release date.

Universal Pictures has had to find a new director fast, and according to Latino Review, they have the hunt narrowed down to three guys who seem custom built for the job.

At the top of the list is Jeff Wadlow, who directed this summer's uber-violent superhero sequel Kick-Ass 2. He also directed 2009's Never Back Down, which falls perfectly in line with The Fast and the Furious. And he would be working for the same studio as those two projects.

Next up is Brad Furman, director of The Lincoln Lawyer. His next release will be Runner, Runner with Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake, which revolves around an offshore gambling operation and arrives in theaters this September.

Finally, third in line is Harald Zwart, the man behind The Karate Kid reboot and the sequel to The Pink Panther 2, as well as Agent Cody Banks. He seems the least likely for the job, but he could surprise us.

Universe is expected to make an announcement about the director early next week, as Fast & Furious 7 is planning to shoot in Los Angeles this summer for a May 2014 release date. Who would you like to see direct the next movie in this popular franchise?

Fast & Furious 6 was released May 24th, 2013 and stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot. The film is directed by Justin Lin.

Fast & Furious 7 comes to theaters April 10th, 2015 and stars Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Kurt Russell, Jordana Brewster, Lucas Black. The film is directed by James Wan.

Wadlow could be the best choice, depending on how good Kick Ass 2 will turn out.

correction, I think Universal never cared about this series, they just want to keep making more money from it

Awful decision by the studio, they're gonna screw things up as usual.
Just bring back Lin and let him finish what he started. He did a great job with this series.

Harald Zwart is automatically out with me...horrible Karate Kid remake, he'd probably get talked into having Jayden Smith be apart of this franchise somehow

@pjwolsker -- Take what I said with a grain of salt. Anyway, I was referring to the new Kick-Ass, as it looks like complete and utter garbage.

DOMINIC SENA will be good choice actually! Don't forget Gone in 60 seconds! Just saying guys! But otherwise will be nice to give some time to Justin Lin to finish what he started I mean that he did a lot to this franchise and maybe it will be nice to finish it or the best maybe will be getting ROB COHEN the original director of the first film! But hey timeline is a timeline if you are not up for it you got a go! Just get some 1 good and up for the task! ;)

None of the directors here really stand out, if I have to decide that will be Wadlow, but I'm really hoping Universal rethinks giving Justin Lin time.
