Jamie Kennedy actually not returning for Scream 4
"We're not that movie. We're not that universe where you can bring people back from the dead. That would be just a cheat. It's such a disservice. Everyone's like, "When's Randy coming back?" I'm like, "You know what? I would love nothing more than to have Jamie Kennedy in the film. However to have Randy in the film, it sort of just takes it... I mean Scream 2 was a lie, you know? It's a false move. So I just won't do it. I can't do that. I just won't do it."
The director also confirmed that Scream 4 will likely turn into a trilogy:
"There's three. I am contracted for 4, 5 and 6, but the deal for 6 is not done. I mean I pitched three films. The story is about returning to Woodsboro; and Scream 5 - knock on wood, if we actually get to it, because 4 has to be good in order for us to make a 5 - 5 will be a continuation of 4, but 4 is its own movie. It has a beginning, a middle and its own ending, which will be satisfying hopefully. It has a beginning, middle and end and 5 has a beginning, middle and end; it's just a continuation of the lives of all the people that live in 4. I can't start giving 5 away - that gives up too much of 4."
Scream 4 was released April 15th, 2011 and stars Lucy Hale, Roger Jackson, Shenae Grimes, Dane Farwell, Anna Paquin, Kristen Bell, Aimee Teegarden, Brittany Robertson. The film is directed by Wes Craven.
Scream 5 is in development and stars Neve Campbell, David Arquette.

i also cant figure out what more backstory they could add but i have faith in kevin williamson i think hell come through hes not that stupid to write 3 more movies and f*ck them up and ruin the franchise he started. i sure he came up with some pretty amazing things and wes craven said himself that his scripts are amazing and very original and reminiscent of the 1st scream. so yeah i have complete trust in him. besides there ARE more stories that he could come up with. maybe he added a new backstory to sidneys mother about her past life besides the hollywood bullsh*t or maybe stus parents come back and try to kill her for what happened to him like billys mother did. they never expanded on stu. stu can have a brother or something sydney could have another long lost brother cotton can have a family member out for revenge while all those are stretches im sure there are more backstories kevin couldve come up with. im just excited another trilogy is coming and the whole gang writer director and cast are all back which rarely happens especially in the horror genre. so yeah im just thankful for that. bring on the new trilogy. "new decade, new rules" would be an awesome tagline.

@mrman3810 shut the f*ck up, i never said scream was a bad movie. I thought the first one was awesome and it was one of my favorite horror films. All I said was that Im not interested in any other scream movies besides the first. Because IMO horror sequels or remakes are usually not that good, that goes for most horror franchises not all.

at least they were kind enough to preserve him on tape in 3
but Im really uncomfortable that they are making 3 more new films
I mean really, what else can they add to the story and Sidney's entire backstory?
3 new killers or more would have to make perfect sense to fit the entire timeline

I didn't care for the first trilogy, so I'm not going to bother this one, but are they seriously going to be centered around the same characters? Doesn't that seem redundant? What the hell did Neve Campbell do to deserve all this? Exactly how many more people want her dead? It seems like a huge stretch, but then again, I thought 2 and 3 were, so I guess it could be popular. Whether or not it's good is another matter.
