Kevin McKidd Out as Thor?

It seems that Kevin McKidd may no longer be the lead contender to play the titular god of thunder in Marvel Studio's Thor. A casting call that was snuck to Corona Coming Attractions has gone out for the lead in the film, and beyond simply confirming that McKidd is probably no longer up for the role, it also suggests what the producers and director Kenneth Branagh is looking for in the part.

The casting call reads:
Male MUST BE MID-LATE 20'S and SIX FEET OR TALLER. LEAD.

Physically powerful, very handsome, occasionally egotistical, petulant, and wild. A natural warrior with a quick charming wit who must be genuinely and severly humbled before becoming the compassionate, mature hero of our film.

According to the casting call, the start date for filming would be this July, with the film wrapping in September.

Marvel is eyeing up a July 16, 2010 release date for Thor. We'll certainly keep you updated on any developments surrounding this film.

Thor was released May 6th, 2011 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan SkarsgÄrd, Kat Dennings, Clark Gregg, Idris Elba. The film is directed by Kenneth Branagh.

Thor is a Marvel character based of the actual Norse God. He's one of the lesser cool Marvel characters but somehow he is in The Avengers team... even though Spiderman would be a better replacement but that's just me.

No...gay was Dargo with the futuristic "mullet". I'm not going to dis on someone for not knowing their comic books, but if you are only a fan of the movies, Gotham, try reading the comics. You'll open your eyes to some whoopass sh*t.

In case you failed middle school Gotham Knight, Thor is the Norse God of Thunder, son of Odin, and half-brother of the trickster God, Loki.

To answer your question Happyjack, I was going with Aaron Eckhart, but Chad pointed out why that would never happen. I personally disagree with his opinion Eckhart's not a Thor type, but he's right that Marvel wouldn't hire him because of TDK. I was just under the impression that the days of getting actors who just have the build but none of the acting chops was over. Downey as Iron Man, Norton as Banner, even Maguire as Spider-Man because he doesn't necessarily look like Peter Parker but he's got that geeky quality to him that landed him the gig in the first place and he's a good actor. Like I've BEEN saying, a great actor will take the time to bulk up. BUT, by the looks of it, they're looking for an unknown, so I guess it doesn't matter. It worked for Superman, hopefully it works for Thor. I just don't like the age they're looking for

Thanks Vamp for clarifying for me haha. Blade Trinity and Wolverine Origin movie are completely different films and he was the only good thing about Blade Trinity. But that movie flopped. I'm talking about a leading role as a villian or a hero. There's no way Eckhart would be Thor. Marvel would say no because #1, he doesn't look like a Thor type, #2, he was in one of the most successful movies of all time AS A MAIN VILLIAN FOR A DC CHARACTER. Basically that's like having Christian Bale playing The Flash. Wouldn't make sense.

  14. Mr. Fixit

right now we are stumped as to who can properly play Thor. I am sure there are plenty of talented actors who can pull it off. We are just praying that they makers of this movie to put some losers like DiCaprio or Pitt into the role. I would rather have f*cking Vern Troyer play Thor than those two. Of course seeing him wield Mj&#246lnir would be the sh*ts!! lol

I think we should wait until we hear more on how the story goes. But Eckhart would be good for Donald Blake. I'll hold out for Urban as Thor. Big question in my mind right now - is who will they get to play Odin, the Warriors Three: Volstagg, Hogun, and Fandral. And who, most importantly, will play Lady Sif (cuz damn she's hot!)?? If they are shown at all. But if you are going to make a movie about the God of Thunder, these other characters are equally important.

You people are thinking about body build, not performance. I'd rather have a great actor who'd need to bulk up. Anybody can get fit, but only a select few would have the star power and acting chops to play a God of Thunder

I take that back. He wasn't a Viking (except by birth). he was raised by the Natives. But I bet he could still pull off the dialect pretty good.

    3 years agoby @mrfixitFlag

  23. Mr. Fixit

Urban - Yes, Craig - No. Urban can handle heavy weapons as he has proved in 'Pathfinder'. He was also a Viking in that movie. If he has to use any Nordic dialect he would be perfect. He's got height and brawn. He would still have to bulk up some though. I have nothing against Craig other than that is not how I want to picture Thor.
