The Avengers will feature a different version of Hulk says Kevin Feige
It will be as different as The Incredible Hulk was from Ang Lee's Hulk in terms of its look and design, but it is Hulk. The image we released on the last day of Comic-Con - which got a tremendous amount of attention and I was very pleased about - is a very good representation of what he's going to look like. Hulk is Hulk. We're not going to reinvent the wheel."
Kevin Feige also went into detail about the size and scope of Hulk in The Avengers, and how Mark Ruffalo can be visibly seen within the CGI framework of Hulk.
"He'll be about the same size he was in The Incredible Hulk [which was about 9 feet tall] or maybe a little bit smaller. His muscles won't be quite as cut. We figure he's been the Hulk now for a few years and [his physique is changing]. He's not as cut or as ripped as he was in The Incredible Hulk. The most important thing is that face. As you can already see in that concept painting, it is - more than any Hulk that's ever been done in live action - a Hulk that let's you see the actor in there. You will be able to see Ruffalo in there. That was a big revelation for us. It's just a concept painting, but in that you can see the [influence of Marvel Comics pioneer and original Hulk artist Jack] Kirby, as people have already pointed out, but also, and equally important in this case, Ruffalo's eyes and his cheek structure. It is him."
Marvel's The Avengers was released May 4th, 2012 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.

This Hulk looks like the Hulk should look like. I just hope he talks alot more in this movie than the first two. And the Hulk will not have a hairy chest. Dumbest sh*t I've ever heard!

I don't like this idea, at all. But I'm very interested in how different this will be, visually.

ADDICTION NON-FATAL
From what I've learned, this Hulk is going to be an Avatar of Mark Ruffalo. It will look similar to Mark in many ways, so if Ruffalo is sporting a hairy chest so will his alter ego and when in action he may run and mimic that of a gorilla.

@bane5000 I agree. I too do not like how they are going out of their way to make it seem as different from TIH as possible. I really liked it and find it very entertaining. In fact I prefer it to Iron Man (though I guess I'm in the minority).. Nonetheless the new desgin does look pretty good.

I was hoping they would keep the same design of the Hulk from TIH, but the new concept design looks decent, just hope they dont make him to, well, un-muscular. I thought it was perfect how they made him look in TIH, a giant powerhouse with the strength and muscles to take on any foe, military or monster alike.
It just disappoints me that they seem to describe things done in TIH negatively. And they (particularly Feige) seem to treat TIH like some sort of terrible mistake and interpretation of the character they wish to disassociate themselves with, I for one enjoyed the film.
Though i know somethings have to change over time, i just hope they dont make to drastic of a change physically, just mentally, to where he speaks with some intellegence and please dont make him walk like a gorilla as was rumored before...

They are going to give us a 40 year old hulk with sagging man boobs?! I don't see why u would take away Hulks muscle definition. I hope it transitions well on screen.

I have faith in Ruffalo now. Sure, I loved Norton as Hulk, and I was disappointed when he was replaced, but I'm starting to warm up to the idea of a new actor, especially if we'll get a more...human performance of the Hulk, if you know what I mean.

@shuabert I agree. Besides, I'm more interested in what the Hulk does than what he looks like.

Good. There was a definite lack of emotion in the Incredible Hulk character that was more present in the 2003 version. I'm betting they can make the best version yet with today's mocap technology, in the vein of all the brilliant mocap work that Andy Serkis has done.

I enjoyed the first two film versions. It gives me a headache with three different versions

Good idea Kevin, b/c he knows that the fans liked Ed Norton as Hulk and he's been replaced by Mark Ruffalo so he has been Hulk for years and his face and physique are changing. Not a bad idea. :-)

Hope they don't change his physique drastically so that he would look like Steve Rogers before he transitioned to "Captain America", i mean that's the point of the Hulk, for him to look cut with his 20 abs.

Well that's stupid seeing that in all incarcerations of the Hulk he's ripped, cut, and very muscle even at an old age. I bet 2 weeks later we get a Pic of Hulk and he still looks the same and I bet the real difference is that He can talk!

Am I the only one who finds it odd, how this implies that the Hulk usually works out in his sparetime?.. Sparetime that he really does not have..? Not to mention that he has now decided not to care and spend more time relaxing in the couch.. I did not know Hulk was like an athete and not just a uneartly monster created from radiation.

@playhouse It's rooted in The Incredible Hulk. The character just looks a little different.

Is the character going to be rooted in the story of 'The Incredible Hulk', though? Or are they going to assume its a third history altogether? That's what I want to know.

Meh! I know it will be a cool look, but why change him, those kinda things break the continuity of the movies, in general, just like the thing with col. Rhodes, the fact that they changed the actor kinda broke that continuity from the first IM. The same thing happend here with Hulky.
