Kenny Ortega Gives Thriller Update

Michael Jackson's Thriller adaptation could be years away
Michael Jackson's Thriller adaptation could be years away
Earlier this week, we reported that a big screen adaptation of Michael Jackson's hit single and music video Thriller was caught in the middle of a bidding war between studios. Michael Jackson's This Is It director Kenny Ortega, who is rumored to be helming the musical horror movie, recently caught up with Entertainment Weekly to update them on Thriller.

Here is what Ortega had to say about the project:

"It got put out there before I've even really had a chance to think about it too much. It is still in very, very early stages of development. The [Michael Jackson] estate would have to sign off on it. I have been a part of some early creative meetings and if all goes well, I think it could happen in the next couple of years."

When asked if he was nervous about recreating something that is so iconic in pop culture history, Ortega confidently stated:

"Michael used to say to me that there is nothing to be afraid of and fear just gets in the way anyway. We were very good friends. I miss him. And I would never do anything to ruin his memory or one of his creations. But like I said, it is so early, so who knows what will materialize?"

Thriller is in development . The film is directed by Kenny Ortega.

Sherryrose I gotta agree 100% this isn't because Ortega is trying to honor the legacy or bring MJ to a new generation... It's Michael Jackson dude EVERYONE knows him! Young, and old, and all in between.

This is being done to cash in on the surge in popularity his music has had since his death which is amazing honestly but doesn't shock me because the guy was the King, and he always had fans! He just hasn't been working much the last decade.. But notice how all the "This is it" tickets sold out mad quick! The love for him was still there but it's now exploded since his death and yes they are trying to cash in on it... I'd like to see more of his un released music out then this movie tho...

if ortega really respects MJ he wouldn't touch this phenomenal iconic legendary epic thriller video, and bcoz it just no need to do it!if michael were still here he wouldn't allow ortega to touch it ! it's so a shame and too greedy for ortega to steal michael's idea&hardwork and crediting himself from michael jackson's thriller video and exploiting MJ's name is too much&unacceptable! was "this is it" not enough for you?! seems you can't get over with michael jackson&you wanted more! stop cashing in on MJ's death, you had profitted millions off of him already!enough is enough!

I'm a big Michael Jackson fan, and I loved his Thriller album/cd/record whatever! But even I think this is pointless to make without him... Thriller was epic, and was what it was because of him... I mean who are they going to cast Chris Brown or Justin Timberfake? No thanks... Leave well enough alone, and make a bio pic about Michael which is what i'd like to see more, and release some of his nearly 500 unreleased songs!!

This is completely pointless to me. I don't even like Michael Jackson (waits for the hate...), but even I admit the Thriller video was pretty cool. It's still cool to this day. Making a movie out of it isn't needed. One. bit.
