Kenneth Branagh to Direct Thor

Kenneth Branagh
Kenneth Branagh
Kenneth Branagh is in negotiations to direct Thor, the adaptation of the Marvel Comics property into a live-action feature set to be released in 2010.

According to Variety, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige's choice of Branagh is surprising, as Branagh hasn't really directed an action-heavy film since his debut on Henry V, a bloody telling of the British king's conquest of France.

The Thor comicbook adaptation, penned by Mark Protosevich, follows disabled medical student Donald Blake, who has an alter ego as the hammer-wielding Norse god Thor.

A production date has not been set.

Thor was released May 6th, 2011 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan SkarsgÄrd, Kat Dennings, Clark Gregg, Idris Elba. The film is directed by Kenneth Branagh.

Thor would be interesting to see how it would play out in modern time. Hopefully not that old century crap because I really don't like that if they are going to do The Avengers movie and put him in there.

    I think he'll do it justice. I can't think of a movie that he's directed that I didn't like.

  9. The Narrator: The Better Man

This guy is an actor, and has directed a few films. Like Hamlet. Who knows, sometimes actors know the feel of movies as good as directors, other times they get it wrong. To be honest I'm pretty disappointed. at least it's getting something done in Thor.

about time they got someone, from the sound of it the films in good hands. Now we all we wait for is who's playing Thor, the villain (probably Loki) and any of the other gods. Should be cool to see Asgard on the big screen to

    Holy f*cking sh*te ! I really didn't care for Thor... until now!

I just hope he doesn't do the usual routine and plays Thor himself. Besides that...

    Go Branagh! Go Thor! Wew!

Obviously Loki would be the first choice for villain. It would be a great role if handled well, the guy is the God Of All Evil Tricksters.

nice, this is a smart move by marvel. Branagh is a good story teller, not sure how he would fair oput with all the CGI action scenes though. but this is promising.

Color me cautiously optimistic. Branagh's "Henry V" is an excellent, excellent war-movie/Shakespeare film, which could really fit in well with the Asgard aspects to "Thor".

So long as he isn't crazy enough to want to star and direct, I'll be hopeful.

Though I could actually get behind the idea of him playing the Donald Blake side of Thor...

I really don't know what to say. Maybe Marvel is going for something more poetic with this one. But with a guy whose directed pretty much nothing but Shakespeare films, do you really think he can deliver?

You have GOT to be kidding me!

    GO Professor Lockhart, GO!

Considering that Thor is a Viking anyway, this could work with Branagh's style.
