Point Break director Kathryn Bigelow is currently prepping her Iraq War drama The Hurt Locker. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie and Brian Geraghty have all signed on to star in the film.

The movie is based on recently declassified information about an elite Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal team in present day Baghdad that comes under sniper fire and an onslaught of bombs. Mark Boal wrote the script.

Boal stated, "The idea is that it's the first movie about the Iraq War that purports to show the experience of the soldiers. We wanted to show the kinds of things that soldiers go through that you can't see on CNN, and I don't mean that in a censorship-conspiracy way. I just mean the news doesn't actually put photographers in with units that are this elite."

He continued, saying, "If you look at the history of war movies, with the exception of a couple of movies during World War II that were more like propaganda, swashbuckling jingoistic stuff, most war movies don't come out until the war was over. It's really exciting for me, coming out of the world of journalism, to have a movie come out about a conflict while the conflict is still going on. The medium of film can be revelatory about a topic. It's not commenting on something that is history, it's showing something that is real, in today's life."

The film is scheduled to begin shooting next week in Jordan and Kuwait.
