It's got to be better than From Justin to Kelly, right? According to The Hollywood Reporter, American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee is all set to make her acting debut in the independent comedy The Last Caller.

The film will be a coming-of-age tale that sees a self-obsessed woman searching for love in all the wrong places. The tone of the script, written by Michael Albanese, has been described as dark.

McPhee said, "This is the first thing that I read that I really wanted to do. I'm up for a couple of big studio projects, but they weren't starring roles. I wanted to start off doing something a little different. It's something that a lot of people wouldn't expect me to be doing."

The film will begin shooting this fall in New York.
