Kal Penn Boards Indie Comedies 'Stereotypically You' and 'Outliving Emily'

'Battle Creek' star Kal Penn pulls double duty with two new roles playing a womanizer and the supporter of a long-married couple.
Kal Penn, who stars in the CBS mid-season series Battle Creek from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, has signed on for two indie comedies, Stereotypically You and Outliving Emily.

Stereotypically You centers on Charlie Carroll (Aaron Tveit), who loses his job and his girlfriend on the same day, as he goes on a journey of self-discover. Kal Penn will play a serial womanizer in the dating comedy, which also stars Lauren Miller, Cloris Leachman, Abby Elliott and Kelen Coleman. Benjamin Cox is directing from his own screenplay, with production scheduled to begin in New York City next week.

Outliving Emily is an ensemble that follows the 50 year marriage of Tim and Emily Hanratty through a series of six vignettes. No details were released for Kal Penn's character, but he joins a cast that includes Alexis Bledel, Zosia Mamet, Thomas Mann, Jeremy Jordan, Phylicia Rashad and Olympia Dukakis. Eric Weber is writing and directing the feature, based on his own short story. No production schedule was given.

Stereotypically You comes to theaters in 2014 and stars Lauren Miller, Aaron Tveit, Cloris Leachman, Abby Elliott, Kelen Coleman, Katie O'Grady, Kal Penn.

Outliving Emily comes to theaters in 2015 and stars Alexis Bledel, Zosia Mamet, Thomas Mann, Jeremy Jordan, Phylicia Rashad, Olympia Dukakis, Adam Rose, Louis Zorich.
