Justice League of America Eyes Director Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck may direct Justice League of America for Warner Bros.
Last month, we reported that The Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan turned down Warner Bros.' offer to direct the DC superhero ensemble Justice League of America. Today, a new report reveals the studio has reached out to Ben Affleck to possibly direct this epic adventure.

The actor-director, who made the upcoming Argo for Warner Bros., is expected to meet with the studio in the next few days to discuss the project. It is said that he is the only director to be given the new screenplay, written by Will Beall (Gangster Squad).

Although no story or character details have been confirmed, this big screen epic will likely bring together DC heroes such as Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and The Flash. It is also interesting to note that Ben Affleck has indicated he is only interested in directing movies that he also stars in, a notion that leaves one to wonder which of these superhero characters the multi-hyphenate is interested in playing.

It still isn't known yet if the studio plans on using actors from its previous superhero movies, such as The Dark Knight Rises' Christian Bale, Green Lantern's Ryan Reynolds, or the upcoming Man of Steel's Henry Cavill for this new superhero extravaganza. Justice League of America likely won't be ready to hit theaters until at least 2015.

Justice League comes to theaters in 2015.

So who exactly does he want to play in the film is the question?

I will say this, Cavill needs to play Superman, they will have to find a new Batman since Bale is out, and keep Reynolds unless WB plans on rebooting GL all together. I think some continuity is good for the film and marketing.

Lmao @ all the hate! Affleck is a pretty damn good director and I think he will do a great job with this if given the chance. We don't need to see him direct a Batman movie. Sh*t we just got over Batman, we don't him thrown down our throats. Affleck was actually pretty damn good as Dardevil so don't blame him cause you didn't like the movie. He knows comics and is pretty informed so I think he would make a very good JLA movie. Only people that truly don't wanna see this get made are haters and Marvel fans.

This is a terrible idea, it would have been better if they hired J.J Abrams to direct.

I wouldn't mind it if Ben directed a Batman film first to prove his worth, but knowing WB they will rush it and ruin DC Comic's for years to come.

One would be hard pressed to name 15 directors better than Ben Affleck. Any movie would be lucky to have him, his speed or not, especially something so trivial as a cbm :P

He's a great director. I'm surprised so many people are skeptical.

However i also want to add that Nolan should help in the project as well as helping making other Justice League superhero movies.

@basquat -Totally agree, I would really like to see the Shortlist for this movie. It can't just be Affleck

Not sure about now, but his directing skills in terms of growth is similar to Nolan's; Nolan directed Batman Begins and The Prestige even though they weren't the best of the best, however his abilities has grown with TDK and TDKR, so i'm pretty sure Affleck in the same manner could pull this off, and agreed with earlier comments, he shouldn't star in it at all.

This would definitely be a gamble.
Pro - He is a long time comic book fan.
Pro - He does have some well written projects under his belt.
Pro - He may still have enough clout in the business to stand up
to studio execs when they try to make idiotic content
    changes.
Cons - No experience as a director with this level of special
    effects & CGI
Cons - He and Mark Steven Johnson are extremely close and I
believe Affleck had a lot more involvement with the
making of Daredevil than just acting.

Bens directing skills has gotten better and better with each movie he has done. But JLA movie to jump into is way to much for him to handle.....

Even if JL isnt as realistic as the Dark Knight trilogy, I would still want Afflecks edgy style for this

I so hope this happens. The Town and Gone Baby Gone were raw and completely grounded and that's how DC needs to be from now on.
Also, everyone needs to go watch Affleck's trailer for Argo that he directed....Yea, he can pull this off

A JLA series would be brilliant if done correctly. I'd gravitate toward the Final Crisis arc having Darkseid as the main antagonist. That only means that they'd never realistically be able to pull an intriguing film together by 2015 without properly developing the characters that are part of that cast unless they begin doing several title projects regarding these characters within two to three years time with at least three superhero movies a year. That's not going to happen. But if they took their time, this could be splendid and actually rival the likes of Marvel's The Avengers.

His directring is better than his acting and gone baby gone were both fantastic. Not sure about this is something he can pull off but i am willing to give him a chance as long as he doesnt perform in it

They went from Nolan to Affleck? There isn't anybody more qualified in between.
This movie will never happen. It's a bad idea which they'll eventually realise(hopefully)

@moviegeek, I think so , They might mess this whole project up by rushing it. JLA can be sooo huge if the Movie is put togther just right

  22. moviegeek

This movie will be terrible. Affleck is a talented director, but DC has no clue what they're doing. Marvel thought this out with The Avengers. DC is rushing this project.

  23. Ghostman

Eh...don't really like him as a director. Unless if it's anything like The Town, then i'm in.

  24. Christopher Lino

I'm not disputing that he got offered the chance to direct JLA, I know he was considered for Man of Steel before they picked Snyder for the job, it just doesn't seem like his cup of tea.

I mean Gone Baby Gone, The Town and Argo these are all relatively similar movies and then you have Justice League.

And there's no way Bale, Reynolds and Cavill will be a part of Justice League.

It's so funny, Marvel has really pulled it together over the years and DC still seems to be divided, despite being under the same roof at Warner Brothers
