Last month, we reported that The Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan turned down Warner Bros.' offer to direct the DC superhero ensemble Justice League of America. Today, a new report reveals the studio has reached out to Ben Affleck to possibly direct this epic adventure.

The actor-director, who made the upcoming Argo for Warner Bros., is expected to meet with the studio in the next few days to discuss the project. It is said that he is the only director to be given the new screenplay, written by Will Beall (Gangster Squad).

Although no story or character details have been confirmed, this big screen epic will likely bring together DC heroes such as Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and The Flash. It is also interesting to note that Ben Affleck has indicated he is only interested in directing movies that he also stars in, a notion that leaves one to wonder which of these superhero characters the multi-hyphenate is interested in playing.

It still isn't known yet if the studio plans on using actors from its previous superhero movies, such as The Dark Knight Rises' Christian Bale, Green Lantern's Ryan Reynolds, or the upcoming Man of Steel's Henry Cavill for this new superhero extravaganza. Justice League of America likely won't be ready to hit theaters until at least 2015.

Justice League comes to theaters in 2018 and stars Gal Gadot.

It would have been awesome if all the actors from the previous dc movies came back in this :(

did he make that rule (not directing what he cant star in) after- Gone baby gone?

I think flash would be a good choice for affleck, the only other choice would be GL, i really dont think he could fit as a batman or superman... although it would be ironic if he played superman, and personally i like his films and his directing.

Directing? yeah, whatever, but acting? if its a member of TJL he wants to play? hell no, some random guy is ok.

@thedude1 as long as he doesn't cast Jennifer Garner as WW he will be ok with me. She might would make a good Cheetah.

I personally find Affleck to be sc*m but I do enjoy his movies. This is would a completely odd choice but I have no problem with it at all.

@bawnian-dexeus -- I'm with @superman81 on this; Joss Whedon was (seemingly) as qualified for "The Avengers" as Ben Affleck is to this.

    Think about it.

I'd still like to know of any other candidates.

@bawnian-dexeus that is probably the only thing that would worry me. Visually MOS will probably be the best superman movie ever made, maybe best looking CBM movie ever made. But the story has to match, this Superman is going to truly be a reboot and origin story so people will need to be patient like Begins was. I read they are going to show the war on Krypton in the beginning so that's something no one has done.

Honestly if Man of Steel doesn't live up to the hype then I'm pretty sure a JLA movie won't happen anyways. I think MOS will do great but we have to wait a few more months to know if all the JLA talk is even worth it.

Does anybody remember, that Darren Aronofsky was going to do batman begins before Nolan, but the script was supposedly too violent, that would be the guy i'd like to see. Also still really pissed he couldn't do the wolverine, that would have been sick, you can thank Rachael Weisz for that one (half kidding, half not). i'd like to see more artistically made comic book adaptions, instead of popcorn 3D bullsh*t, he's the man that could do it. But Affleck has been doing some fine work, and Kevin Smith would be in his corner, or hate his guts for getting the opportunity.

@bawnian-dexeus Avengers wasn't even that well written. So he will truly prove himself with A2 and the Thanos storyline but that's for another day. Saying Affleck isn't proven when he has had directing hits is off base and I don't see any reason at all to think he would mess this up. No he ain't Nolan but maybe we need a fresh face.

@bawnian-dexeus well who the hell would have picked Joss Whedon as their first choice? Or second or third?? Not anyone that's who! He punched his own ticket with Avengers success but just could have easily buried his career. This saved him and made him a top pick director. So don't act like picking Affleck is such a bad idea. He has proven he can direct.

"Only people that truly don't wanna see this get made are haters and Marvel fans."

We want it made, but we want it done right. And while Affleck may have shown signs to helm the directors chair, he wouldn't be anyone's first choice nor mine.

    Sure...that argument always works
