Justice League of America Eyes Director Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck may direct Justice League of America for Warner Bros.
Last month, we reported that The Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan turned down Warner Bros.' offer to direct the DC superhero ensemble Justice League of America. Today, a new report reveals the studio has reached out to Ben Affleck to possibly direct this epic adventure.

The actor-director, who made the upcoming Argo for Warner Bros., is expected to meet with the studio in the next few days to discuss the project. It is said that he is the only director to be given the new screenplay, written by Will Beall (Gangster Squad).

Although no story or character details have been confirmed, this big screen epic will likely bring together DC heroes such as Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and The Flash. It is also interesting to note that Ben Affleck has indicated he is only interested in directing movies that he also stars in, a notion that leaves one to wonder which of these superhero characters the multi-hyphenate is interested in playing.

It still isn't known yet if the studio plans on using actors from its previous superhero movies, such as The Dark Knight Rises' Christian Bale, Green Lantern's Ryan Reynolds, or the upcoming Man of Steel's Henry Cavill for this new superhero extravaganza. Justice League of America likely won't be ready to hit theaters until at least 2015.

Justice League comes to theaters in 2015.

  2. THE JOKER

@Ryan-Davis Because it is such a huge project... there is a lot of weight on his shoulders for this... and the Avengers being as good as it was will only make it harder...

I'd actually love to see Michael rosenbaum take on the role of flash, he was great in justice league and his sense of humour translates really well on-screen, but I would say he should have spidermanesque lenses so you can't see his eyes. Without lenses it'd have to be Bradley Cooper.

@ejk1 I think DC should make a black Flash. After seeing U.Bolt at this year's olympics, the man should get a chance to play FLASH ;D

@Fry-3000 I don't think Ben Affleck would do a good job directing a Justice League movie. They should have a director direct a Justice League movie, not someone who that is better known as an actor rather then a director. Doesn't he star in movies more then he directs them anyways?

I will say this though, The Avengers has laid out a good formula for how the characters should co-exist in a world, outside of multi-dimensional stuff.

Supes - Iron Man = mainstream hero
WW - Thor = mythological solitude
Martian - Cap = in stasis
Batman - Hulk = urban legend
GL and Flash = new heroes (probable reboot/ recast for GL, if it's not multi-dimensional idea - hense Affleck is a decent idea, and it's always good to have someone with a bit more perspective in writing etc. around).

  11. Tomp1210

I think Bryan Singer is the obvious choice here, he's conducted multiple characters together in X-men, and Superman Returns was a master-class in atmosphere, don't care what anyone else thinks. Ben would make a good Green Lantern replacement if t came to that though, seeing as Reynolds is trying to screw up everything he touches atm - he's been cast in Highlander...

  12. Bradley Tyler

Only interested in directing films he stars in? Ego much? And heck he might not even fit any of the characters that could appear in it! I think a different director would be a better decision. find someone with real passion for the JLA like Whedon was for The Avengers. Or maybe someone relatively unknown?

@superman81 you do need to specify, because Affleck may not be suited for one of the characters.

    10 months agoby @ejk1Flag

  15. Superman81

@ejk1 And I think he would make a good Flash, didnt think we all needed to specify the actual person. Affleck would make a good Wally West because I feel he can pull off his c*cky attitude well.

  16. Superman81

@corey well if WB decides to reboot GL then that might would be an ok choice but if not Reynolds should reprise the role.

  17. Corey W.

I'd see Affleck as Hal Jordan. That's about it..

    10 months agoby @coreyFlag

  18. Superman81

@ejk1 no they went with one of the more well known GL and Hal Jordan was the best choice since he is the most popular. Jon Stewart probably wouldnt have been the best choice. guess they could have went with Alan Scott. and how did I prove your point? I just told you some of the differences between the two. Hell maybe they wont go with Wally or Barry, maybe they will go with Bart Allen.

    10 months agoby @superman81Flag

  19. ejk1

@superman81 Thank you. You just made my point. Wally and Barry are completely different, yet some of you were saying, "He'd be great as Flash!" as if they are the same person. And to say they would go with Wally because of the JL animated series is reckless assumption. After all, it wasn't Jon Stewart in the GL film, now was it?

    10 months agoby @ejk1Flag

  20. Superman81

@ejk1 I dont see why you always find a way to put others comments down. if they do a JLA movie i would think they would go with Wally West since he was the one in the JLU and JLA series. He is more c*cky and a jokester, where Barry was the geek, level headed guy. But regardless of the difference in the two it will be up to WB and DC to decide who is the Flash in the movie

    10 months agoby @superman81Flag

  21. ejk1

The comments below are laughable. People keep saying, "Affleck should be Flash!" Um, which Flash are we talking about, Barry Allen or Wally West? Do you clowns know the differences between the two? I doubt it. I'm not certain if Affleck is the best choice, but he isn't a bad one.

  22. felipe-11

I think the only way this movie could work is if it were a "stand-alone" film; no setting up each character with their own film, no setting up multiple movies, just a straight up JLA movie.

TDK trilogy was completely stand-alone (no way Bale is ever coming back for this), MOS will be completely stand-alone too (Batman won't even exist in that universe), so just get a new cast and make a stand-alone JLA movie.

And Affleck would be a terrific choice.

@bawnian-dexeus that is probably the only thing that would worry me. Visually MOS will probably be the best superman movie ever made, maybe best looking CBM movie ever made. Does anybody remember, that Darren Aronofsky was going to do batman begins before Nolan, but the script was supposedly too violent, that would be the guy i'd like to see. Also still really pissed he couldn't do the wolverine, that would have been sick, you can thank Rachael Weisz for that one (half kidding, half not). i'd like to see more artistically made comic book adaptions, instead of popcorn 3D bullsh*t, he's the man that could do it. But Affleck has been doing some fine work, and Kevin Smith would be in his corner, or hate his guts for getting the opportunity.
