ABC orders a pilot for the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series, with Joss Whedon directing
Marvel's The Avengers director Joss Whedon has signed on to write the pilot script with his brother Jed Whedon, and Maurissa Tancharoen (Dollhouse). Joss Whedon is also expected to direct the pilot episode, if his schedule permits.
Our initial report indicated that this live-action series may or may not feature the actual superheroes from Marvel's The Avengers, although it will be set in the same world. Setting this up as a S.H.I.E.L.D. series will likely introduce more of the inner-workings of this clandestine organization, although no plot details have been confirmed yet. It is possible for the various actors and heroes currently seen in the movie to make guest appearances, and for future comic book characters to be introduced.
It is not known at this time if Samuel L. Jackson, who plays S.H.I.E.L.D. leader Nick Fury, will be involved with the series, or if he will make an appearance in the pilot.
Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, and Maurissa Tancharoen will executive produce the pilot alongside Marvel TV president Jeph Loeb and Jeffrey Bell. It is said that production will begin immediately, so stay tuned for any casting updates in the near future.
Marvel's The Avengers was released May 4th, 2012 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.

for now on I would like to see live Marvel TV shows and film cross overs.

@rudy Yeah, that would be cool. But, hopefully one of the main cast of the Avengers team from the Avengers movie, will make some sort of cameo appearance.

Wait! Will this also tie in the new Hulk series that ABC is also doing, or will just stay in the cinematic universe.

How much milk does this cow have left?? On a side note, does anyone else see Samuel L Jackson in the picture looking all bad ass and think he is wanting to tell Whedon to get the f*ck out of his face mother f*cker!!

Considering the alternate opening that got cut from the movie and the possibility of them following likely(mildly) the storyline that has Nick Fury going into hiding while Maria Hill takes over as acting S.H.I.E.L.D. director.
They will likely try to make it a tie into the movie universe so that it acts as the other stand alone films have and fills the timeline between the bigger avengers films. And this would make it easier for them to introduce and use heroes who are far less 'Marvelous' lol but likely also would stick to mainly focusing on S.H.I.E.L.D. operations with new operatives introduced into the universe.

THE JOKER
@rufio well, first off even though I am one for Batman I say this with love, f*ck fanboys... haha our expectations are always set way too high... I just feel to get that feel and visual aspect needed for this universe, it would have to be a film...

@mcleve02 i like that idea much better. makes more sense. a TV show could be pretty sweet too, BUT you have to have a LOT of material to stretch out that much. plus you have all the casting issues. jackson? smulders (who already has a show)? clark gregg?
too many tricky hurdles that if not navigated right will be rejected immediately by fanboys.

THE JOKER
@rufio My idea was to not make a show, but a movie with all the SHIELD cast in it... The movie would revolve around all the events of the solo films leading up to the Avengers movies, but through the eyes of SHIELD...

this could be very cool or very... very bad. bad in the sense that it could even hurt the Avengers 2 (or at least Whedon's involvement in the sequel). plus i'm not sure how it would work fully b/c it would HAVE to have movie links and lead ins. It would have to take place after Avengers, before Avengers 2. ORRRRR it could be all the pre stuff (before the Avengers are formed). i think that would be the easier and safer approach. that way you have a lot of wiggle room without affecting the outcome for A2 and by knowing what happens in A1 it gives them a direction to build to (an end in mind, in other words).

Not sure if this would work without seeing SLJ, but it could, and its a lot better idea of doing a S.H.I.E.L.D. series than Avengers.
