Fanboys are still buzzing over Marvel Studios' reveal of The Avengers: Age of Ultron title at Comic-Con 2013 earlier this month. When asked about why he went with Ultron, writer-director Joss Whedon revealed he had been thinking about using the villain before he even landed the job directing Marvel's The Avengers.

"I was pitching Ultron before I took the job on the first movie. I was like, 'I don't know if I want to do this, but for the second one, you should totally do Ultron.' Because he's been a thorn in their side as much as any other character over the years and particularly back in my history. He was great. He's somebody who can juice things up and he's a real problem for the Avengers. That's not always easy to find. It's not like the Vulture is really going to give them a hard time for 20 minutes."

We also reported during Comic-Con 2013 that Ultron will get a new origin story for this Marvel Phase Two sequel, which Joss Whedon is directing from his own screenplay. Hopefully we'll find out soon who is actually playing the villain, so stay tuned.

In addition, we have a video interview that Joss Whedon conducted at Comic-Con 2013 with Marvel Live, where the filmmaker reveals more details about this highly-anticipated sequel.

Avengers: Age of Ultron comes to theaters May 1st, 2015 and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., Elizabeth Olsen, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Cobie Smulders, Jeremy Renner. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.

Thanos is sitting back and watching events unfold. In chess, the pawns go first.

Really, you guys? That slow build is exactly what they're doing with Thanos, who is ultimately a way cooler and more badass Big Bad than Ultron. Each film needs a villain that is, as Whedon says, big enough to need the Avengers to come together, so you can't use a minor character in these team films.

@narrator@gandoff I agree with both of you. Him taking it upon himself to keep making these popcorn ideas without spine makes me sick. The fanboys are always going to be behind him, for sure. But come on man, you're a top notch f*cking director, stop slacking and make it worth our while.
They could have introduced Ant-Man first and set up the origin for Ultron, it's all good. But nooo, Whedon needs more money from 2015's box office explosion, ofcourse he has to rush it.

@Brizzy I think your right, but I also think their decision to push and make Guardians of the Galaxy, and use Thanos as their villain put the story for Avengers 2 into question. But for me, the changing the origin for Ultron is a no no...

@Brizzy Agreed. This is simply a way for Whedon to avoid the work building up Ultron properly would take, including waiting to see what Edgar Wright does with the Ant-Man film. This is the easy way out for Marvel/Disney - create a new villain that once again hypes up the awesomeness of Downey Jr's Iron Man, in turn getting as much fanboy revenue as possible. Frankly, I'm getting a little sick of it.

Ultron is basically iron man or Jarvis gone wrong but this is no surprise

@Brizzy@themoviefanatic RIGHT?? Why not an Ultron cameo in the post credits??? Lol they show thanos and then don't plan on having in the 2nd movie?? What was the point of all of that? And where's this so called planning and Ultron idea?? Lol

@themoviefanatic I mean it's really f*cking easy to say that now, but the way that the Avengers was set up, without a single f*cking mention of anything REMOTELY connected to Ultron, does that sound like something marvel would do? No. They teased Thanos, that was the first plan. After that, things changed. Dunno why, doesn't matter. But if he could have teased his Ultron plan in the Avengers, he would have.

@Brizzy How do you know that he didn't think of Ultron before he did the Avengers movie ?

Litsen, respect to this man and everything, but he didn't think of Ultron before he even did the first one, that's bull. They only recently came up with Ultron as a way of having RDJ have a bigger role because let's face it: RDJ makes the cash. They're not having the origin story of Ultron, instead Stark is probably going to be the creator = RDJ in the front row.
