Joss Whedon is very candid regarding the high expectations The Avengers
The Sydney Morning Herald recently spoke with The Avengers's director Joss Whedon and discussed working on the project, and everything else that goes along with creating a film that combines so many beloved Marvel characters.

"Right now I'm working on a movie that's got enormous stipulations and is going to be changing and fluid every second. I've come up with dozens of scenes and lines and exchanges and monologues that I adore that are not going to be in it," Whedon says of The Avengers. "But while I'm writing them they feed me, excite me and they ultimately inform the character. It all goes in."

Whedon was also very candid regarding the fact that expectations are very high for this film.

"I have always felt, my whole life, that everything could be taken away at any second. It has actually been a huge problem for me that I know that," Whedon says. "I certainly will do everything in my power not to have that happen, everything in my power to make it good. That's my power, that's all I've got. All I can do is make it good enough for somebody to see it twice."

Marvel's The Avengers was released May 4th, 2012 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.

@FilmFinder Mark Ruffalo is a talented and adverse actor, although i agree they should not have replaced Norton, Ruffalo is a fine and very wise choice.

I believe Whedon is the right person for this because of this reason... he works great with ensemble casts. Most of his shows have at least 4-5 characters working in group dynamics all the time, so he's familiar with that territory, hence why I think he's the right person.

@Messenger, I disagree, as I loved both Angel and Buffy(although I will admit, Buffy's last two seasons were only so-so). I think they were both great shows. As for Whedon, I have every confidence that he will do a great job.

Well.. i`m looking forward to this,.. Mr. whedon has the firefly series and the serenity movie (amongst others) on his conscience, ... not bad if you ask me,. however, those of you who thinks this will crush the avatar box office,..not im a million years, avatar targeted a much wider audience than avengers will,.. c`mon..its a typical guy movie.. and not dances with wolfs... still excited though...

Well yeah, FAVREAU understands. though. He know he did such a good job with IRONMAN and he undertands that if he doesnt step in and protect what he created on film, then it will be destroyed. i think he should just make every Marvel based film, he would be set for life. hahaha!!!

Meh, I have doubts with Whedon. Just doesn't seem to have the right attitude towards this movie. He seems like hes stepping into a room full of people he doesn't know. Its awkward. Its a good thing that Favreau is still Producing this movie. Its one of those "Ill have to see some pictures or footage to be convinced" situations.

I still HATE the fact they replaced Edward Norton, they took the perfect Bruce Banner, and threw him away. F*ck Mark Ruffalo, shuch a horrible actor. He wont be able to compete with Norton.
