We reported a few days ago that Joss Whedon is in final talks to direct the long-awaited superhero ensemble film The Avengers and now it seems he might be scripting another upcoming Marvel film. Pajiba is reporting that Whedon will also be doing a script polish on Captain America: The First Avenger.

Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely wrote the script for the film, which is being directed by Joe Johnston. It wasn't quite clear what the extent of Whedon's potential script polish could be, but it was also said that Whedon was polishing Zak Penn's script for The Avengers as well.

We'll be sure to keep you posted on any new developments on Captain America: The First Avenger as soon as we have more information.

Captain America: The First Avenger was released July 22nd, 2011 and stars Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Dominic Cooper, Richard Armitage, Stanley Tucci. The film is directed by Joe Johnston.

    @Brian LOL.

    @VIS I also left a comment about the title a few days ago, before I saw the Marvel switch. The MW monkeys do sometimes make mistakes, but they are doing the best they can. I used to call out every mistake, but realized there's really no point in that. Their editing has gotten better and only if something is amiss like photo uploader broken or something do I bring it up now.

    About this news, it is somewhat disturbing. I know Whedon can handle ensemble casts, and even though he is a huge name in the Buffy/Angel comic world, he is basically a nobody in the film business. He has done TV shows, sure. He has directed some eps of his shows in the past. But I can think of ONE MOVIE he has directed. TWO at the most. To tackle The Avengers, the biggest superhero movie of all superhero movies, and now dabbling in the Cap film....not good. If he turns out to be really good, and direct Avengers and it is badass, I will eat every word. I just....doubt it.

    This is good news all around. With Whedon helming the Avengers I have more faith in the project, and Whedon sticking his hands in the script for Captain America has made my interest in that film go way up.

    It's The First Avenger: Captain America...I swear, sometimes I think a bunch of monkeys are running MW. You guys have updated the site nicely, but you make the stupidest mistakes.

    Anyway, if he's making re-writes, he better act fast.
