Josh Zetumer in Talks to Write Dune

Josh Zetumer is in talks to pen the latest incarnation of Dune for Paramount Pictures, based on Frank Herbert's sprawling sci-fi epic.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the award-winning 1965 novel was first adapted by David Lynch into a financially and critically disastrous 1984 film (though Herbert apparently liked it). It also was turned into a more successful Sci Fi Channel miniseries in 2000.

Kevin Misher is producing the new version through his Paramount-based Misher Films. Peter Berg is attached to direct.

No production date has been set.

Dune comes to theaters in 2012. The film is directed by Pierre Morel.

i agree that the sci fi channel version was great. i would like to see 3 great films like lord of the rings. it would be nice with the special effects we have now. it should look great. and hopefully a crack team of writers to get the story down on paper, the new movie would be a new classic for the new generation.

I like the 1984 movie also.. The styling and concept of the movie was real cool (never read the book... A.D.D here LOL) kinda made me feel Dune existed a Long long time ago in a galaxy far far away!!

    LOL

Thought the 1984 film adaption was ok. Admittedly though, I only knew what was going on after I'd read the book. The book is great, but the film shouldn't have relied on the book to tell you what's going on. That's why it bombed at the box-office. Hopefully, this version should have a clarified story for the none-book readers to follow. If they do this right, and looking polished, it should make up for what happened in 1984.

Hoepfully third time's the charm for Dune. I wasn't a huge fan of either adaptation. I didn't feel that either of them really got the mood of the book.

I never heard the title, never read the book and I really don't know anything about it, but What I know is that the small picture on the movieweb homepage is incredible, it will probably be cool, but lets not rush

CGI like FF Advent Children would do Dune great justice, I agree with you there. And seperating the movie into the 3 chapters of the novel would make for good movies.

"no one had any idea what was going on if you had never read the book"

You are so right Kwisatz. I remember when I saw the theatrical release the ushers were handing out papers
with definitions of terms and explanations of the situations background and when the movie was over people were still coming out of the theater muttering "what was that I just watched". Never saw anything like it before or after.
Actually, to do it justice I think it would take 3 movies. What do you think about TOTAL CGI like "Final Fantasy"?

Sweet monkey! The orignal Dune was alright, I think it was cool due to 2 things, one the sonic weapons was sweet, oh and two Sting was it the film, and thats just funny you have to love it. the SciFi miniseries was badass, hands down freaking sweet! I am the Kwisatz Haderach! A revision of this could be cool but for a film it would need to be two films, that was the problem with the last film, so much sh*t crammed into an hour and half, it didnt flow well and no one had any idea what was going on if you had never read the book. The miniseries worked better that why, it explained things better over more time. Still very excited to see this!
