Josh Brolin is set to star in The Gangster Squad later this year. He will then jump directly into Oldboy when that film is finished shooting, and then he will follow that up with Jason Reitman's Labor Day.

I think Spike lee is an interesting choice for the director, and Josh Brolin is a great choice for the character, but Im still not onboard for and OldBoy remake. The Idea of remaking it in Hollywood is just something I don't see working out. There is no way I can see this movie being done properly in our culture. The reason Infernal Affaires worked as a Hollywood remake was because it could be done proper in our culture.

He is a good choice for the "American" version of the character but as @dan1 said it will pale...

This will just be another case where the Americanized version will pale in comparison.

Haha @m2 @pjwolsker Bale disregarded himself from the project.

This is going to be awful,sorry... Oldboy is just amazing and there is no way any American company can pull it off, especially when their best is bloody Spike Lee...

Bring me Fincher, Almodovar, Nolan then we got something interesting brewing and maybe Daniel Day Lewis simmering on the cast list

@pjwolsker they want Bale to play the vilian, not the lead so maybe his name is still up in the air.lol.

I think this story is too off-putting for American audiences. I like Josh Brolin but I think it'll be weird with an accessible actor like him playing this character. I don't know about Spike Lee doing it either. His movies are hit and miss for me. Some are good and others are too self indulgent. And this is one foreign film I'd like to stay as is. Not remade. @basquat. Word on Ian McShane. He would be good in this.

@bawnian-dexeus -- Which part was that phrase necessary? I like the idea of him becoming the lead male in this one.
