Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Role in G.I. Joe Revealed

Movie Picture
Last week, it was reported that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was in talks to appear in Stephen Sommer's G.I. Joe, but at the time, there was no word regarding what role Levitt might be up for. Well, CHUD reports that Levitt will be playing a character who is best friend to Duke, leader of the G.I. Joe team.

Spoiler ahead
Furthermore, they reveal that Levitt's character is not only Duke's best friend, but he is also Cobra Commander! The character was a former G.I. Joe team member who turns to the dark side and starts the Cobra organization.

This news comes on the heels of the now dis-proven rumor that Dominic West was in talks to play Destro in G.I. Joe. IESB.net has spoken to sources at Paramount, who confirm that West isn't even on their list of contenders for the role of the Scottish arms dealer.

At the present, the confirmed cast list for G.I. Joe includes Ray Parks (Snake Eyes), Rachel Nichols (Scarlett), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Heavy Duty), Said Taghmaoui (Breaker), Marlon Wayans (Ripcord), Sienna Miller (the Baroness) and Byung-hun Lee (Storm Shadow). G.I. Joe is on schedule for a 2009 release.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra was released August 7th, 2009 and stars Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Christopher Eccleston, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Byung-hun Lee, Sienna Miller, Rachel Nichols, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce. The film is directed by Stephen Sommers.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is one of the best young actors in Hollywood right now. Ever seen Brick or The Lookout? If not rent it...brilliant actor. He's also in a flick called Killshot with Mickey Rourke and Diane Lane coming out in 08' where he plays a psychopathic killer, so he has range to play Cobra Commander. He's a fantastic actor. Give him a chance!

Hey now people give the little guy a chance I mean sure he's a runt but he might be able to pull it off.....that is if the Cobra Commander started off as a fifteen year old little p*ssy when he organized the Cobra team. Yeah didn't think so. Sorry Levitt its just kind of an odd role for someone of your.....stature?.

I cannot see him as Cobra Commander. We need someone older and more serious looking. He looks too young and soft.

oh, and sienna "why isnt there a c*ck in my mouth?" miller as the baroness? couldnt the baroness have been better played by someone like lilith (from frasier), f*ck, even janeane garafaolo wouldve been a better choice.

all this find-the-hottest-youngest-girl-even-if-she-couldnt-possibly-be-believeable-in-this-role bullsh*t has got to stop.

i still remember a day when the women who were chosen to play roles in movies were believeable in their given roles... how would "misery" have been if kathy bates character was played by Katherine Heigl and james caans character was played by josh hartnett, it wouldve been frickin terrible.

i get it, sex sells, but if i want sex ill pop in some porn (in my dvd player), but when i watch a movie i want to believe that what im seeing is at least remotely believeable.

  10. Err

hes kind of a little dude, isnt he?
i woulda thunk cobra commander wouldve been middle-aged too.

im not crazy about all this hiring early 20's aged people for all these roles, like i didnt buy the bitch who played lois lane, i think the lineup for the justice league is a travesty and i sure as f*ck dont buy this kid as cobra commander.

nevertheless... im looking forward to seeing this movie.

No matter how great or how sh*tty this movie is gonna turn out, I'm still gonna see it...Now people you can all complain about the cast but this is what GI Joe is a about. A diverse crew for the Joe team and Cobra team is what it's all about. Looking back at the cartoons, each character have there own way of presenting themselves from all there background info. Hopefully, the story line will turn out great with the picture frame.

  17. THE JOKER

i dont. he did a great job of playing a badass in little man. The thing that made him funny in that was his size. i think he will do just fine. And no one ever said anything about it not being European based. and dont tell me they cant pick up the accents. Look what Mr. Australian Heath Ledger has done with his voice in the dark knight. it can be done. i think this movie is a great idea and i think it will be a success.

two things that i find hard to get used to with this gi-joe mock up. number one is Marlon Wayans as(Ripcord)dont get me wrong great comedian have trouble seeing him in anything action oriented i guess i still can't get over the scary movie series. number 2 is gi-joe as a A European-based military unit known as Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity (G.I.J.O.E.),

yea not too sure about him being the leader of the Joe's but we'll have to see, and to Celluloid, the only movie I can associate him with, in which he was still very young but played a leading role, was "10 Things I Hate About You"
