Joseph Fiennes and Morena Baccarin have signed on to star in The Unholy, a new thriller from Gold Circle Entertainment that is being shopped at the Berlin International Film Festival.

E.L. Katz (The Aggression Scale) wrote the screenplay, based on an original story by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza, creators of the [Rec] franchise. The plot, based on actual scientific research that suggests evil lurks within our own DNA, follows a group of scientists recruited by the Vatican for a worldwide initiative to find new candidates for exorcisms. They are forced to reexamine their beliefs when faith meets science in a whole new way.

Ross Katz is directing, with Gold Circle's Paul Brooks producing. Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza are executive producing, alongside Scott Niemeyer, Guy Danella, and Adrián Guerra. Principal photography is slated to begin this spring.

This sounds a lot like they took elements of REC2, the more boring elements, and ran with that into another movie. I like Baccarin, but I don't like the concept.
