Jonathan Rhys Meyers eyes The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones
Jonathan Rhys Meyers is in talks to join Harald Zwart's The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

The film is based on a fantasy novel by Cassandra Clare that centers Clary Fray, who finds out that she is the descendant of half-angel warriors called Shadowhunters. She is tasked to help fight an ongoing battle to protect the world from demons.

The actor will play Valentine Morgenstern, a powerful Shadowhunter looking to purify the world at any cost. Lily Collins is headlining as Clary Fray with Jamie Campbell Bower, Robert Sheehan and Jemima West set to co-star.

Harald Zwart is directing from a script by Jessica Postigo and I. Marlene King.

Production begins later this month in Toronto.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones comes to theaters August 23rd, 2013 and stars Aidan Turner, Lena Headey, Lily Collins, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Robert Sheehan, Jamie Campbell Bower, Kevin Durand, Kevin Zegers. The film is directed by Harald Zwart.

    this dude is too good of an actor not to be cast more regularly or in better roles. he was brilliant in The Tudors and August Rush (and the better part of the crappy "From Paris with Love"). he is a classic example of bad roles happening to good actors (unfortunately by his choice). this movie doesn't sound very promising either. here's hoping this turns around soon.
