Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell to Fill Heath Ledger's Role in Dr. Parnassus

AICN reveled tonight that they know who will be replacing Heath Ledger in Terry Gilliam's upcoming film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. According to their sources, Gilliam has asked Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell to step in and fill the role left unfinished by Ledger at the time of his passing.

Each actor will be using the opportunity to pay final respects to the actor. They will each offer up their own interpretation of Heath's character in the film. There is no word as to when the film will resume production.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is scheduled for a 2009 release date.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus was released December 25th, 2009 and stars Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, Heath Ledger, Christopher Plummer, Jude Law, Lily Cole, Peter Stormare, Tom Waits. The film is directed by Terry Gilliam.

    i have to agree with seti73, Depp fits the genre alot better as well. He has already made movies with styles like this. He would be more fitting. The other two are great actors, but Depp would be better for this role.

    AndrewRyan - I respectfully disagree.

    Of course, no one can tell you what actors to like better as everyone has differing opinions, tastes, etc. However as far as admiration of talent is concerned, I could not see Colin (or Jude) fairing well (or fitting well) in films Depp has done such as:

    Edward Scissorhands
    Secret Window
    Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
    Neverland
    Dead Man
    Sweeney Todd
    Chocolat
    Pirates of the Caribbean (1st one)

    Again, just my opinion. I'm not challenging who you like better, just your comment regarding equal talent level. I think Depp has a unique gift among today's actors to play such a wide variety of roles, and make them work. This is more of an opinion of mine based on Depp's greatness than Colin's or Jude's weaknesses. That is to say, I don't think Colin and Jude are bad actors, I just think Depp is on another level.

    I'm not trying to force my opinion on you, but rather just explaining a little more what I meant in my comment below. ;)

    Here's a source I found that would make the movie into making sense: Ledger's character steps through a mirror three different times and into different worlds. So three different actors will now inhabit his character's body in those segments of the film.

    Personally, I'm not sure Colin Farrel and Jude Law are anywhere near Depp's talent level. For Johnny to be listed among those two is an insult to him.

    Of course, this is just my humble opinion.

    This is nice. I'm a bigger fan of Colin Farrell than the other two, especially Law. I hope he does what marcusx said. No, wait that isn't right, they're trying to honor Heath here, we don't want another dead guy during the filming of this movie. Am I sounding offensive here?     Hey Rad, I just watched the 1st scene with Colin as Bullseye, you know in the bar.... of course you know. After talkin' bout it I just had to pop in th DVD real quick and watch that scene. I think that scene in and of itself is classic! When he takes out his little needles & aces that guy..... so great.... and just that curled lip expression he makes.... awesome!

    Of those movies you listed, the Recruit and Minority Report were OK roles at best. I just can't see Farrell being able to step up to the plate and be on Ledger's level of acting is all. Maybe he will suprise me.
