It seems that Johnny Depp will be making a movie about one of the major influences on his Captain Jack Sparrow character. According to Variety, Depp will direct an untitled documentary on Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards.

The story confirms earlier reports from a Serbian magazine about the project and it was said that Depp would begin work on the documentary next week. It was said that Depp and Richards have been friends for over a decade and Richards appeared in Depp's film Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, portraying Captain Jack Sparrow's father and Richards was cited as one of Depp's inspirations in portraying his character.

Depp's last directorial outing was The Brave, a 1997 film that starred Marlon Brando. It wasn't clear when the film was planned for release.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End was released May 24th, 2007 and stars Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Jack Davenport, Bill Nighy, Jonathan Pryce, Lee Arenberg. The film is directed by Gore Verbinski.
