Johnny Depp is close to signing on for Pirates of the Caribbean 5
We reported back in May that the Pirates of the Caribbean 5 script by Terry Rossio was completed. At the time, Johnny Depp indicated he hadn't read the script. It seems he has read it since then and is close to finalizing his deal to return. Our earlier report did indicate, however, that Johnny Depp wants to hold off a bit on making Pirates of the Caribbean 5. Here's what he said back in May.
"It boils down to story, script and filmmaker. It's not something where I would say, 'Let's shoot it next month to get it out by Christmas 2012.' We should hold off for a bit. They should be special, just like they are special to me."
There is no indication on when production might start on Pirates of the Caribbean 5, especially since a director hasn't been formally attached. Back in January, Disney indicated they wanted to bring back Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides director Rob Marshall to direct Pirates of the Caribbean 5, although nothing is official yet.
Pirates of the Caribbean 5 comes to theaters in 2013 and stars Johnny Depp.

@sean its a new age every year that gets interested into movies and a new age that doesnt get interested in movies. I mean hey, everybody's got a reason to watch it. I watched it because I wanted to see what would happen, I wasn't anticipating it at all. But everybody has a different style of what they like, some people who i call posers ONLY like a movie JUST because the other movies in the series were good.

Since some people think Rob Marshall was not a good director for Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides, then then who would be a better director for Pirates of the Caribbean 5, since the director from the first three movie is not coming coming back ? I would say that maybe Jon Turteltaub would be a good director for Pirates of the Caribbean 5, meaning the director from the other Disney movie "National Treasure".

Well, what about when it's a movie like each of these individual Pirates of the Caribbean movies, that make a whole lot of money every time one is released to theaters, regardless of what their movie trailers are ?

I know this franchise makes alot of money, but please let this next one be better then At Worlds End and Stranger Tides.

Why do some people think part 4 was horrible? I loved it from beginning to end. Sure only three of the crew was in it, the monkey was seen. I was hoping to see the two comedic pirates again but noo they left them out.
Depp is smarter than Hollywood, that is a great sign. Yes 2013 would be great since he's only in it for seven films.
I find that this will become like Bond in some ways. Looking forward to 5,6 since its one big story.

Pirates 4 was horrible. They better get a new director and get Hans zimmer to do the whole score instead of rehashing the old ones.

@sean, well a trailer can manipulate people of all ages to convince them to like it..box office does not have anything to do with how good it is. Winters Bone was one of the lowest grossing movies of 2010 and it was nominated for an oscar.

The fact that it made over $ 1 Billion dollars. I think it's safe to say that, it does not suck.

At least Pirates 4 is better then Pirates 2 and Pirates 3, for know until Pirates 5 comes out. I mean who knows, maybe Pirates 5 will top them all.

That depends. I read in a article on a website once, that Johnny Depp was willing to do up to a Pirates of the Caribbean 7, if they (Disney/Bruckheimer) let him.

Who knew part 4 would be so successful at the box office. Hopefully the story for part 5 will be better and like Depp says, not to rush the damn thing. I'm not going anywhere and neither are the fans. (awaits to be told it should be released sooner)

Depp is so right.. There is no rush, it should come back when people have missed it for a while! Even though I would like it for christmas 2012, it would be much more appreciated in 2013 :)

Wait, what's the point of this article? It just recites what happened back in May. Anyway, looks like Johnny Depp is the only one who knows how to handle this franchise the way it should be handled.

Depp is exactly right. There is no need to rush a fifth film. Take some time off and come back in a few year and maybe release it in 2013 or 2014.
