John William's iconic Superman music will not be heard in the upcoming Superman reboot
"We had to say this is a Superman movie for the first time and you can't then go 'Oh, now let's steal a little music'... So, yes it's awesome music but Hans Zimmer is going to do something awesome."
In a recent interview with Total Film, the director elaborated his point about creating an entirely new Superman.
"The big challenge is if you can make people feel 'What would you do if you were Superman?' That's what we went out to do as far as we could. Superman's always been this kind of big blue boy-scout up on a throne that nobody can really touch, so we tried to make him relatable. We decided to act as if no Superman film had been made - even though we love the films that have been made... Superman is a big responsibility but I felt he needed to be reintroduced to a generation and I thought this was a great opportunity."
Man of Steel comes to theaters June 14th, 2013 and stars Russell Crowe, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Laurence Fishburne, Christopher Meloni. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

@mcleve02 Sorry it took so long to comment back. Hectic day. I e-mailed you a little while ago. But what you suggested sounded fantastic.

@mieko-siede yes sir! I sent you an email about the vampire story... (not using its name on purpose for your sake!) Let me know if that is what you are looking at for that story or not...

@mcleve02 It makes perfect sense. We all have our roles and places within the fixtures we set ourselves in. The most important part is knowing that role so that how you apply it is most effective. It's like a coach to a sport. Most boxing coaches had very mediocre careers but they train the most elite boxers. Football coaches have an in depth understanding of how the positions work but weren't the best athletes themselves. Some of them had or have the talent that we'd never know of because the opportunities never presented themselves. But rather than leave the dream behind, they made it work for them in a more productive way. It's not always those that can't do that teach. It's more about guiding those behind you along. Reaching back and supporting those that may have shining chance.

@mieko-siede Agreed! And I wish everyone would go back to appreciating everyone's art and wanting to help each other get along! I guess it is a lot of why I came to peace with having a very local sort of job... I write for schools within my tristate area and teach with in them.. I sort of see it as my goal to teach the kids to be better musicians than I could ever be... If that mentality makes any sense!

@mcleve02 To be honest, it's a subject that burns me as well. It takes the "equal" out of opportunity. There are so many talents out there that will sadly never see the light of day. That's why I'd like to position myself to one day get to a point where I can help other's see their talents and dreams realized-at least to some degree. I have to to remain steadfast in my efforts. But arts and creativity are very dear to my heart.

@mieko-siede Yeah, and to be honest, needing a college degree for something such as writing or music to get a job is just insane to me... Yes, I am all for having classes to improve yourself, but talent should get the jobs in the creative world... What about people like our Hans Zimmer's who went to a very small school and got grabbed for his skills alone... Not because he went to some big college and got a degree, just passing by the skin of their teeth... I feel very strongly on this subject... it aches me that someone out there whose parents had the money to put them in schools like Berklee College of Music will get jobs over people who have 5x the amount of talent, but could only afford to get their degree at a community college

@mcleve02 I can imagine. With most things--unfortunately--you have to know someone that already has a key to the door. It's really too bad that skill alone isn't always enough.

@mcleve02 I truly respect musicians. It takes a great deal of commitment to do what they do. Very few climb to elite status, but all who show the dedication are worthy of note.

@mieko-siede It's fine! I am the same exact way with dance... Even the flexibility requirements between a Martial Artist and a dancer different in muscles used and such, so I guess it sort of makes sense why its hard for us to translate what we do into dance... Music seriously just takes a lot of practice... yes you will have those who will pick it up right awy... but the key is to practice! and as I stress to people I teach, make sure you practice with a metronome! A true life saver!

@gumperman No worries! That's why I tried to reply in a way that showed I was not being nasty! haha and I do agree with your points 100% about Williams theme, the story should be the top priority focus for this!

@mcleve02 So why respond to my post the way you did, which I did find to be rude, when I wasn't even commenting on what you were writing about? Did you think I read all the comment pages and was trying to join in your conversation that I had no idea existed? I simply read the article and immediately commented. Yes, I shouldn't have assumed you were being rude, because who can decipher implied tone by words on the screen anyways. But again, I wasn't commenting towards you or any other user on this site when I first posted, just to whomever wrote this article on @movieweb. I was annoyed with the fact that it was even news in the first place. @movieweb has already posted news on this very subject before, why must they continue to do so? That's a question not aimed at you by the way, just a rant in my head. Also, what annoys me about it is, you will get people that will read an article like this and comment about the Williams theme being the defining Superman theme for all things Superman, which it is not. It shows to me how unknowledgeable of Superman and/or close minded people are. Don't get me wrong, I love the Williams theme, LOVE IT, but I never expected it to be apart of MAN OF STEEL in any way, shape or form and I very much look forward to what Hans Zimmer comes up with. And yes, I am very educated in the way of film. I would even go as far to say, probably more than anyone else on this site. ;)

@mcleve02 It sounds fun. Of all the things I can do, music has always been something that I'd have liked to do. For my extreme lack of skill in that area I've learned to appreciate it by tuning my ear to every little nuance between rifts. Just like with dance, I have the rhythm for martial arts and choreography, but not dance. I love to watch my daughter. But before she'd ever come along I'd learned to understand what I was watching in steps just so that I could grasp the concepts of the art.
