Marc Webb looks to recast J. Jonah Jameson
According to What's Playing, Webb is currently looking at potential actors to take over the Daily Bugle's gruff newspaper editor from J.K. Simmons, who portrayed Jameson in the first three Spider-Man movies from Sony.
Mad Men's John Slattery is apparently first in line for the role, having already worked with Marvel Studios on Iron Man 2, where he played Tony Stark's (Robert Downey Jr.) father. Sam Elliott also appears to be in contention for the role, though it is unclear if he has met with Sony yet about appearing in the reboot, or if the studio has only checked into his availability at this point. Elliott has also worked for Marvel Studios in the past, appearing in the original Ghost Rider.
Actors are still being read for the part. With the Untitled Spider-Man Reboot gunning full-speed ahead, we should be hearing an official announcement any day now on who might be the next J. Jonah Jameson.
The Amazing Spider-Man comes to theaters July 3rd, 2012 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Denis Leary, Chris Zylka, Irrfan Khan, C. Thomas Howell. The film is directed by Marc Webb.

Isn't he Howard Stark, Surely he can't be J.J.J too. Well If Chris Evans can be Captain America and Johnny Storm I suppose Its alright

Doc Holliday: [taunting a card player who believes Holliday is cheating him] Why Ed does this mean we're not friends anymore? You know Ed, if I thought you weren't my friend... I just don't think I could bear it!

There are just some roles that are only meant for ONE actor to play. And Jameson is one of those roles.

LOL, not ANY answer. :P
But he was kinda funny in Tombstone too (from what little I remember of it). But again, not the "kind" of humor people are looking for for the Jameson character. One of the reasons people didn't want him recast was because he captured the essence of that character so well. If you read any article on IGN about what they want from the reboot, one of those things has always been "Keep Simmons in the role". I believe that feeling is felt universally.

And yes, I saw him in Hulk :)

I think any answer I give besides Simmons will be the wrong answer lol... Elliot was funny in Road House, but too relaxed. He was a hard ass in We Were Soldiers, but not funny (well, somewhat, if you have a warped sense of humor like I do then he was funny). If he got some kind of middle ground with those two roles, I think he'd work. Just how I'd break him down for the role. :P

I dunno, have you seen Elliot in the Hulk? Those are the kinds of characters he usually plays, the General or authoritive types. He's been known to be pretty funny in some of his roles but despite his great acting abilities, I don't think he could be the "J. Jonah Jameson" type of funny that is required for this role.

If you had to choose between Slattery and Elliot, Elliot could do circles around him. The guy has been a hard ass (and funny) for decades. Take him any day over that Mad Men guy.

OK, I want everybody to do me a favor just to see their pictures... Click on the link to Slattery's MW page, then click on Sam's.
Finally, click on Simmon's page and tell me what you see.

I conclude that this "reboot" is going to be along the lines of the Hulk reboot. Not a disappointing box office take, but not a great one either. Not enough money to warrant an "immediate sequel" but just enough money to "maybe" warrant a sequel "somewhere down the line in the future" (meaning 5-6 years vs 2-3). Who's with me?

I wonder how many "thumbs down" this article got compared to the whole 6 thumbs up. Oh well... time to add one more to the down group.
