John Goodman joins Red State
The plot of the movie, which Kevin Smith wrote, follows a group of teenagers who encounter a terrifying fundamentalist preacher based on the real life Fred Phelps, leader of the Westboro Baptist Church. This will be Smith's first attempt at making a horror film, as the director is most widely known for his raunchy comedies.
No details were given on John Goodman's character as of yet, though Kevin Smith did say the chance to work with the actor was "a dream come true." He also mentioned that he has written a part for Goodman in his latest screenplay entitled Hit Somebody, which revolves around the lives of a small town hockey team.
Red State was released September 25th, 2011 and stars Melissa Leo, John Goodman, Michael Angarano, Kyle Gallner, Stephen Root, Nicholas Braun, Kevin Pollak, Anna Gunn. The film is directed by Kevin Smith.

cool beans, i think.
i generally like mr goodman, but lets face it he was just awful in "death sentence".
judging on a curve looking at all of his film credits though he should be great.
