John Fusco has signed on to write the script for the remake of Akira Kurosawa's 1954 classic, The Seven Samurai for The Weinstein Company.

Ziyi Zhang is also in negotiations to star in the film that takes place in 16th century Japan, notes Variety. The original director, Kurosawa, drew on the American western for inspiration, and many of Fusco's previous credits are drawn on that genre.

There's no production schedule set for the The Seven Samurai remake.
