Writer-director Andrew Stanton caught up with MTV and discussed the progress of John Carter of Mars, based on the series of Edgar Rice Burroughs novels about a Civil War veteran who becomes a great hero on Mars.

"I'm not in post-production - I'm in digital principal photography now, which goes on for the rest of 2011, so I'm only halfway through the movie," Andrew Stanton explained.

"I didn't try to make it look like anything else. I really tried to make it its own thing. I tried to make a very historically accurate Martian film if that makes sense, so I'll let you decipher that."

The director said that John Carter of Mars is still slated for a 3-D release.

John Carter was released March 9th, 2012 and stars Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Samantha Morton, Willem Dafoe, Thomas Haden Church, Mark Strong, Ciarán Hinds, Dominic West. The film is directed by Andrew Stanton.

This is Disney, isn't it? Yeah, that answers why clothes will be on.

What won't be accurate is that they're giving the characters clothes :P

What about a "martian" movie could be concidered historicly accurate and inaccurate? Lets see, Mars is blue and the south won the civil war? No... Martians look human, and earthlings are litte green men.... lmao.... How stupid was this guy and the writer of this article to say, this film will be historicaly accurate. Only thing it could be, is in the earth sence, it look just like 1870 post civil war USA. But once they go to mars, it could be any sci-fi look they want to make from what the book states.

Excellent - I hate when they do historically inaccurate martian films. Snort.

@Shinjiikari - they already have. Colin Farrell in, Les Wiseman directing.

But no Mars. Yep, Colin & Les are in, Planet Mars is out. Pluto is high-fiving the other planets as we speak...

I did not realize that John Carter was an Edgar Rice Burroughs novel. I have not been interested until now. Is this famous Frank Frazetta the original cover? Always likes that piece. One of the early Excalibur books did a parody of it with Nightcrawler in the place of John Carter.

That pic is by legendary comic artist, Frank Frazetta, who is best known for his artistic renditions of Conan, but he worked on many other characters as well and John Carter was one of those.

@Rufio are you kidding, this picture is from famous illustrator Frank Frazetta and it is 30 years old, it has nothing to do with the movie

pic looks like Conan: The Space Barbarian (hopefully that's not his concept art cause if it is, Stanton failed in the "making it its own thing" department.
interesting, though. want to see some real images or a trailer!
