John Carter of Mars Set to Film in Utah?

It seems an epic Edgar Rice Burroughs adaptation is finally happening this year, in Utah. According to the Salt Lake Tribune, the new Pixar film John Carter of Mars will be shooting in Utah starting this November.

Filming will take place in such Utah destinations as Lake Powell - where it was said the original Planet of the Apes was filmed - and locations in Moab, Kane and Wayne counties.

Although it was said the production would film from November to July 2010, it was said that the production is slated to film for just 45 days in the state throughout that span. Pixar is aiming for a 2012 release for the film.

We'll certainly keep you posted on any new developments surrounding this long-gestating project that finally seems to be coming together.

John Carter comes to theaters March 9th, 2012 and stars Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Bryan Cranston, Mark Strong, Willem Dafoe, CiarĂ¡n Hinds, Dominic West, Thomas Haden Church. The film is directed by Andrew Stanton.

So what are they filming there if this is an animated Pixar flick? Reference shots? Nah, it wouldn't take that long. Curious though. And what do they mean by "where it was said the original Planet of the Apes was filmed"-wouldn't someone know that data concretely? lolz
