John August to Write Preacher

In a story from Variety, John August will be adapting the graphic novel Preacher for Columbia Pictures.

The film will be directed by Sam Mendes.

The film looks at a preacher with a strong moral sense in a Texas town. When forces beyond his control descend on upon his city, the preacher takes a cross country journey to fight the evil head on.

Preacher was created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon. The graphic novel came out from 1995-2000 and had 75-issues.

Preacher comes to theaters in 2012. The film is directed by D.J. Caruso.

    The Preacher source material is rather venerated among comics fans. Sam Mendes is a great director, loved his American Beauty (Best Picture Oscar) and Jarhead movies. All systems go...

    WTF? Seriously John August, the dude that wrote Charlie & The Chocolate Factory & the story for Charlies Angels Full Throttle.

    Oh well this news sucks, Jarhead was bullocks, American Beauty, never watched it.
    Road To Perdition is the only thing on his filmography that gives me a glimpse of hope, that this won't f*ck up epically.
