Joe Johnston wants to make a Boba Fett movie
Director Joe Johnston brings his new superhero movie, Captain America: The First Avenger to theaters this weekend, and it seems he has designs on a future project that is far removed from the superhero world. Joe Johnston worked for and was mentored by George Lucas, and the director revealed he wants to make a stand-alone movie about the infamous Star Wars character Boba Fett. Here's what he had to say below, when asked if George Lucas has seen his superhero tale yet.

"You know if he wants to see it, I would show it to him. I'm trying to get George to make a feature based on Boba Fett."

When asked if he would direct this Boba Fett movie, Joe Johnston simply said, "I would like to, it would be a lot of fun."

Joe Johnston got his filmmaking start as a storyboard artist for George Lucas and was a visual effects art director on the first three Star Wars movies, Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, and Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi. One of the characters he helped design was Boba Fett, along with Yoda, the Ewoks and the Millenium Falcon space ship.

It isn't known if there is an actual script being written for a Boba Fett movie at this time. The director also spoke about the possibilities of a sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger, where he would like to include The Winter Soldier into the mix. Take a look at what he had to say below.

"I told the Marvel guys that there is a character that I'm really interested in called 'The Winter Soldier' and that if, 'you guys decide to make that picture I would definitely be interested.' It's the 'Bucky' Barnes story. We talked about 'The Winter Soldier' which is the continuation of what his story is. It's basically that he is captured by the Russians and he's brainwashed and turned into an assassin. But you know there are a thousand ways to go with that. I just think that it would be interesting to take a character that was in Captain America and build a story around him. Plus, I like Sebastian Stan a lot (who played Bucky) I think he would be an interesting actor to build another feature around."

Captain America: The First Avenger was released July 22nd, 2011 and stars Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Dominic Cooper, Richard Armitage, Stanley Tucci. The film is directed by Joe Johnston.

@slysnide They still might, Cap fought in the war three years before he was frozen.

@johnnyblazetb82: That's what they'll probably do then. I just wish they made perhaps 3 films set in the 40s.

  3. The First Avenger: JohnnyBlaze

@slysnide well as was the case in the movie he was "experemented" on him with the formula before Cap an the boys rescued him so that might play into the reason why he didint age the same way Cap didint.

@johnnyblazetb82: Ah, but now that Rogers is in the 20th Century, the Ruskies will have to teleport Winter Soldier to the future as well. :P And wonder why the hell they'd be wandering in the Swiss Alps to have found him? He certainly couldn't crawl away after a fall like that on mostly rocky terrain. :P

  5. The First Avenger: JohnnyBlaze

@slysnide Its actualy "sort" of what happened in his origin. Him an Cap try to stop a bomb to which he falls off an "dies" only to be found alive by the bad guys an turnded into Winter soldier.

A Boba Fett movie would help redeem the Star Wars saga in the eyes of the older fans.

    ***SPOILER****
So if JJ likes Winter Soldier, then why kill off Bucky Barnes? Or at least leave him stranded in the Swiss Alps?

A Boba Fett movie sounds actually interresting...I would be down to see that. But I would like to see another Star Wars movie with the original cast for episode VII. Just curious of what happens next...

I would love to see Winter Soldier in Cap...that is a very essential story line for ol Cappy. I definatly would love to see a Fett movie where he is actually bad ass and not the chump Lucas always portrayed him as and if they are going to do it i def dont want Lucas anywhere near it aside from his production values. However, i know that if that happened Lucas would have his hands all over it and it would probably still suck.

However, i am open to that idea.

Joe Johnston, you need to chill. You're not the greatest director to ever live. With that being said, I could see a Boba Fett mini-series somewhere, but not a whole movie.

  24. CBF

@bawnian-dexeus Yeah there are, Boba Fett actually 'supposedly' (I say supposedly because fans debate this) survives the Sarlacc Pit in the Dune Sea on Tatooine and has some more adventures after the Battle of Endor. I'd like to see his Mandalorian heritage and how he picks up from Jango being executed in Attack of the Clones... But some of that is in the Clone Wars comics. I was just implying the fact that Lucas may not let him do it, even though I know Johnston worked to some degree on the prequels.

I'm sure there are various novels or comic book arcs have been published with boba fett. I don't see why this wouldn't be a good idea. I mean, we're expanding the SW universe with one of the top 5 best selling characters in merchandise.

  27. CBF

@combatmadness360 I agree. There's no way Lucas will agree to that. It's hard enough to get him to follow the canonical timeline of the Clone Wars for his 'what if' 3D series.

  28. T.Clark

Well, he's surely thinking outside the box lol

A Boba Fett movie...hmmm...I don't know the background with the character because I don't get into the expanded mythology of Star Wars. Just the movies for me...and Lego Star Wars haha So I don't know if Fett's story would be interesting enough for the screen. Any hardcore SW nerds care to help me out?

As for the Winter Soldier, it would definitely be a cool idea...if done correctly. But is he talking a sequel to Cap or solo film?
