Joe Johnston Talks Jurassic Park IV

Joe Johnston talks another Jurassic Park trilogy
Director Joe Johnston gave another Jurassic Park IV update when he discussed his upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger with Screen Rant. Here is what Joe Johnston had to say:

"We are in discussions about Jurassic Park IV. The most important thing I can tell you is that it starts a new trilogy that will go off in a different direction - a completely different direction that is very exciting, and different from anything we've seen. It starts with the history of the first trilogy, but it spins it off in a completely different direction. That's all I can tell you."

Just last month, we reported that Steven Spielberg had been meeting with screenwriter Mark Protosevich to brainstorm ideas as to how to re-boot the Jurassic Park franchise with a fourth installment.

Jurassic Park IV is in development .

    If it;s more like the scene from (2), where they get attacked while in the trailer, taking care of the injured baby dino. But I also like the idea of like predator/ alien movie, wher thety assemble a team to go search and find out why there is heat in the middle of the arctic, that would be nice with some of that too.

    Johnston is fully capable of doing this on his own, personally i think part 3 is really good.. a darker vision than the first two.. Steven can produce it if he wants.. But please,... give us other dino`s than T-rex and the raptors.. broaden the vision on this...

    @monkeyiron well, if you're only joking (which i hope to god you are) and you want to see talking dinosaurs go watch Dinotopia, they have tons of talking dinos in it.

    Sounds good. As long as Spielberg is overseeing the project, it should be quality.

    @Monkey-iron - I'm with @ghostman, why the hell would you want the dinosaurs to talk??? They actually pulled a stunt like that in the third film for about a second (when Alan is dreaming) and I almost walked out of the theater. Horrible, HORRIBLE idea......

    ........and I hope that if they really are rebooting the series, that they give it to someone other than Johnston. The guys keeps getting big budget projects and keeps ruining them. As far as I'm concerned, he had his chance, blew it and now its time to move on.

    If Joe wants dinos he should do a Ka-Zar movie about the time rogue S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents enslaved natives of the Savage Land to mine vibranium. Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner seems to be in everything right now anyway) and Black Widow can show up to help (or Mockingbird, since she basically worked Internal Affairs for S.H.I.E.L.D., her alter-ego first appeared in Ka-Zar's comic, and she has a relationship with Hawkeye). I like Kristen Bell as Mockingbird.
    The Avengers and Captain America could be tied-in. His shield is made of vibranium but I'm pretty sure it was made of Wakandan vibranium not Savage Land vibranium so that might involve the Black Panther and no dinosaurs.
    From now on all movies need to fit in the Marvel Universe. ;-}

    @t.Shane, yea i know he made jp3, but i was kinda hoping he wouldnt come back for jp4, lolz. thats why i hope Spielberg would do this. i mean i liked jp3, but really. where else can they take this? not even stven can fix where they left off, which is why a reboot/remake is needed. OR we can just pretend like jp3, never happened.

    @slysnide couldn't agree with you more, especially about the dinosaurs on the mainland thing *shudder* that spoiled The Lost World for me, I have to say. Also I'm not sure about this being a kick start to a trilogy because that suggests some kind of epic, whereas the films work better as one off stories. Although three films of somebody stuck on an island full of dinosaurs could be quite funny, if nothing else!

    @brady1138: lolz.

    Ironic how this news comes a day shy of a decade after the release of JP3, which JJ also directed. And have any of you here read "The Lost World" novel? It was vastly different from the film as it was written while the film was in preproduction. The only similarities were the action scenes and Malcom, who'd been killed off in the first novel.

    On that note, they should then introduce BioSen and reintroduce Lewis Dodgson. So many story possibilities there. Costa Rica is the only mainland possibility I see working like in the first film when some escaped at the docks there before transport to Isla Nublar. What do you guys think?

    @mr-jellyfish: Agreed. The first film had the most plot, and the second one was alright, and the third too short & so-so. They need to get back to those technological roots. That's what makes Crichton stories so different than others. Technology plays a big role. I just hope it isn't an action film. The original ending for "The Lost World" was a lot better than the San Diego one too. By a longshot. So it'd be nice if this wasn't a 'dinos on the mainland' story. I know in the first novel there were some attacks in Costa Rica, like compeys killing newborn infants on the neo-natal wards. :P Costa Rica is among the only mainland landscapes I can imagine a sequel working with. Or a return to the original island Isla Nublar.

    Just include more plot this time around. JP3 would've been better had there been more story to it, and if it could have exceeded that measley 84 minute runtime.
