Joe Johnston says, We need to cast it soon
"We need to cast it soon," Johnston said. "We have a very short list, but we're still juggling actors here. I'd say within the next couple of weeks we'll have ourselves a Captain America, I hope."
Aside from this quote, Johnson was very noncommittal about actual specifics on the film. He said that shooting probably won't happen "until the end of June."
"But we're getting ready to go to the U.K., it looks like.".
As for the story or plot of The First Avenger: Captain America?
"And the interesting thing about this guy is that he starts out as a 98-pound weakling and he becomes this Adonis. How does that affect his arc in the story? How does that affect where he goes and what happens to him and everything? I think that's the part of the story that was fascinating for me. And, of course, being a Marvel movie, there's fantastic action scenes in it and all kinds of great stuff. But there's an interesting story there as well."
The First Avenger: Captain America is slated to hit theaters July 22, 2011 from Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios.

i really feel like david wenham is perfect, he was pathetic and weak in van helsing so that can work, and he was the man in 300 and lord of the rings, hes pretty unknown, and he looks absolutely perfect for the part

Neil Fifer is the way to go here. I saw this on the CA page at IMDB, and I would have to agree:
Neil Fifer is the only way to go (and has talked with Marvel). A relative unknown (although just Googled 'Neil Fifer + videos' and see he's done some German movie/TV stuff. 6' tall. 250lbs. No neck (lol)! Light blue eyes. A perfect 'fit' on the screen next to Iron Man's armor (or would dwarf Tony Stark standing next to him), and formidable next to Thor and battle-worthy next to The Hulk! A Comic Collector for over 30 years and Fanzine Publisher (see 'Comic Cellar' or 'Comic Cellar + Fifer' on eBay under 'Collectibles'! He comes from a Military Family as Father and Uncle served in WWII. Retired a millionaire before age 40 (as I have just read). What a great background to tell as he does the media circuit after the film is made! As for not being 'American' - that's a blessing in light the movie will be shown in Germany - and around the world (of course), and his being Canadian (of Austrian/German descent), the German's (and other countries) can't gripe this is an American propaganda film! Plus the SSS (Super Soldier Serum) makes a 'man' out of Rogers. We don't need a pencil-necked 'beach boy' playing Marvel's greatest hero!

mcounaghey!? no disrespect but id hate it if he was Cap! i cant stand that guy! his slimey acting makes me cringe! i gotta say i think worthington would be a great captain america, chris pine should have been hal jordan (green lantern) and ryan reynolds should of played the flash!...

i'm going with mcounaghey for cap. he has the body and facial structure to play him. i wont go see this if cap is black. sorry but cap is white. thats the image thats been of cap for generations and it shouldnt be changed at all. that would be like having a black batman or james bond. it's not a racial thing, i just think they need to stick with the integrity of the character and not change it just so they can nab a 'big ticket' actor like wil smith.

ok Worthington would not make a good Cap, and neither would Pine. Sorry but just no to both. and Rufio Worthington isn't in Thor, just saying. Strangely though the guy (Chris Hemsworth) who is goin to play Thor wouldn't be bad at all.
Charlie Hunnam would be perfect, he is the lead on Sons of Anarchy. he is young and relatively unknown. in good shape and has the size to play Cap.
and honestly Will Smith has the perfect physique to play Cap, he just isn't white, which i think they should stay faithful to Steve Rogers.

it won't be chris pine or worthington. they are now both relatively well known and johnston has already said he wants it to be an unknown guy (wants this role to do the same thing for the actor that Kirk did for Pine and Clash and Thor have/will do for Worthington). that being said, i'm with @CBF and @InsertUsernameHere... the anticipation is killing me! i am stoked about this movie. you know the character arcs are gonna be huge in this one to pave the way for avengers!
side note: it's funny that they're filming Captain AMERICA in UK. hahaha
