Joe Johnston says his Captain America film is not what you expect
Here is what Johnston had to say about The First Avenger: Captain America:
It's not going to be a Captain America that you expect. It's something different. It is influenced by the comic book, but it goes off in a completely different direction. It's the origin story of Captain America. It's mostly period-there are modern, present-day bookends on it-but it's basically the story of how Steve Rogers becomes Captain America. The great thing about Captain America is he's a super hero without any super powers. Which is why this story, among the hundreds of super hero stories, appealed to me the most. He can't fly, he can't see through walls, he can't do any of that stuff. He's an every man who's been given this amazing gift of transformation into the perfect specimen-the pinnacle of human perfection. How does that affect him? What does that mean for him emotionally and psychologically? He was this 98-pound weakling, he was this wimp, and he's transformed instantly into this Adonis. You'd think he got everything he wanted. Well, he didn't get everything he wanted. The rules change at that point and his life gets even more complicated and dire. For me, that's the interesting part of the story. It's got some great action sequences in it and some incredible stuff that we've never seen before. But at the heart of it, it's a story about this kid who all he wants to do is fit in. This thing happens and he still doesn't fit in. And he has to prove himself a hero-essentially go AWOL to save a friend. Eventually at the very end, I don't want to give away to much, but he does fit in. But it's the journey of getting him there that's interesting. And it's a lot of fun.
Regarding Jurassic Park 4 the director said:
Well, there is going to be a Jurassic Park IV. And it's going to be unlike anything you've seen. It breaks away from the first three-it's essentially the beginning of the second Jurassic Park trilogy. It's going to be done in a completely different way. That's pretty much all I can tell you.
The Wolfman was released February 12th, 2010 and stars Simon Merrells, Gemma Whelan, Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro, Mario Marin-Borquez, Asa Butterfield, Cristina Contes, Anthony Hopkins. The film is directed by Joe Johnston.
Captain America: The First Avenger was released July 22nd, 2011 and stars Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Dominic Cooper, Richard Armitage, Stanley Tucci. The film is directed by Joe Johnston.
Jurassic Park IV is in development .

Agreed, Chad. It seems likely that the modern bookend at the end will be his frozen body discovered by Shield, and that would be a very nice lead in to the Avengers movie.

"My prediction is (espesially since the cast for Thor has revealed Jon Favreau is already on set) that at the end of the movie, Cap is frozen, Stark or Ross come in, see him frozen and make a comment of some sort about unfreezing him. Could be completely off track for this, but there it is."
I love it. :)

sort of like "THE VALLEY OF GUANGY". and now scientists must perform another scientific expediton(a 'la "THE LOST WORLD")before the local government request U.S. military assistance.

I''m liking this direction for Captain America, I just wish this studio had the rights to both Captain America and X-Men because I've always wanted to see a Capt. America/Wolverine WWII crossover movie.

"And he has to prove himself a hero-essentially go AWOL..." I bet that means he gets frozen in suspended animation, or goes rogue, working independently from the government. If it's the former, it means he will be frozen/unfrozen in this movie, and not in Avengers. I almost think that Cap should be a WWII period piece. Well, at least half of the movie.

The Narrator: The Better Man
I await this even more than the Avengers movie. I like the sound of the movie which is what I wanted to see. I mean fight scenes are sh*t with no emotions or back story to them. Cap is the most emotional character in the entire classic avengers lineup in my eyes. And this movie seems to be going in a great direction.
As for Jurassic Park 4, I will wait and see. Not going in guns blazing but I don't whimper at the thought of it.

"It is influenced by the comic book, but it goes off in a completely different direction" That's not necessarily a bad thing. His description is pretty spot on and if directed right, should capture the emotional stress on a man who's undergone a severe physical change, and what is to be expected from him after that change.

I think they'll cast someone young for the role, maybe an unknown.
"Eventually at the very end, I don't want to give away to much, but he does fit in." THE AVENGERS! lol Of course, that may not be what he means...but you can bet that at the end of this movie, S.H.I.E.L.D. finds him, leading straight into the Avengers movie.

JP was awesome, the 2nd not so third was lame and I sure hope the newer is better.
As of Captain America I never was a true fan, never really cared that much for him.
It would have been much better if they 'Studios' did it the other way around, with heroes like Cap starting out than the newer heroes like Spiderman but all well what's done is done.

that exactly what fans of the story want to hear: "It is influenced by the comic book, but it goes off in a completely different direction." bad start, joe, bad start. don't take a popular franchise and make it your own - especially when this is its first real shot on the big screen. this isn't like Star Trek where it already had its story told countless times and ways. Captain America is not only making its first real debut on the big screen, it is bridging together several iconic characters.
as for Jurassic Park 4 - sounds fantastic. 3 was a total waste of time, and two just simply couldn't live up to the original. looking for a whole new take. can't wait!

New trilogy for JP. Could be good. Interested to see more develop on this story...
As for Cap, a period piece should be really cool. Very excited for this to start taking form.
My prediction is (espesially since the cast for Thor has revealed Jon Favreau is already on set) that at the end of the movie, Cap is frozen, Stark or Ross come in, see him frozen and make a comment of some sort about unfreezing him. Could be completely off track for this, but there it is.

It sounds like he has a really good bead on the character for Cap. Let's just hope all that thoughtful execution doesn't get mired in sh*tty dialogue, acting, and plot.

Looking forward to both, but I really hope they get Laura Dern or Jeff Goldblum back for JP4.
I like the direction of Captain America. There hasn't been a period superhero film in...well I can't think of one. Maybe the very beginning of Hellboy. Should be good stuff.

I liked Dinos and love to watch them especially on 3D. Hope this not another always T-Rex dinos enemy. Please include other terrifying Dinos, like water Dinos, air Dinos, X-Rex dinos! Cause I want to watch Dino movie again! As for Captain America, an origin movie is very interesting, always.
