Joe Carnahan Describes Death Wish Remake Plans

Over the weekend it was announced that The Grey director Joe Carnahan will write and direct a remake of the 1974 revenge classic Death Wish for MGM. Now, the director has taken to his account to talk about the project:

Joe Carnahan on Twitter

"Guys, I'm doing 'Death Wish.' But this version is a re-imagining of the book and set in present day Los Angeles. The L.A. of 'Collateral.' It's on buses, cabs, metro trains. I want to show an unseen version of L.A. L.A. on foot. Prowling. Hunting. The vast emptiness of downtown."

"Guys, I said I was writing a role for @FrankGrillo. Nobody said anything about Frank playing the Kersey part. Relax folks. We have a plan."

No production date has been revealed for Death Wish.

Death Wish is in development . The film is directed by Joe Carnahan.

Again people are freaking out for no reason. Like it was said in the article this is going to be more based off of the book than the Charles Bronson movie. How can people be made at that? Hell True Grit did the same exact thing and that turned out to be a classic.

Charles Bronson is rolling over in his grave right now...I mean C'mon when is this remake business going to end. They literally take well done, classic stories, and reduce them to badly directed, badly acted, and badly scripted films. The only thing that is altered in remakes is the time, as the stories are modernized. But overall remakes are just idiotic versions of their classic, original counterparts. The reason remakes are badly acted, badly directed, and badly scripted is because the ideas that are used are not original. It's really pathetic. Before you know it, movie studios will be making revisions to their own remakes of classics from the seventies, eighties, and nineties. Carnahan will make a Death Wish movie, and twenty years later some random director will say hey let's remake Carnahan's Deathwish. Ten years from now, Hollywood will want to remake the remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street. Pathetic.
