Jodi Foster to Direct Untitled Sci-Fi Thriller

The verdict is still out on whether or not Jodie Foster will be appearing in Neill Blomkamp's upcoming sci-fi thriller Elysium, with the actress stating last month that she hadn't signed onto the project. Now, the Oscar-nominated actress and director of The Beaver says she is directing her own sci-fi thriller.

The upcoming movie will be the next directorial gig for Jodie Foster. Though it is unclear if Elysium is set to come before, during, or after she completes work on this untitled genre flick.

Here is what she had to say about it.

"There's a family element to it, but it's much more a genre movie. I'd like to do that 'cause that's a world I live in as an actor but I've never really gone to as a director. I'd still have to have all the other stuff in a film. It can't just be, 'There's a bad guy, there's a monster.' It has to have all the other stuff too."

Jodie Foster says that this sci-fi thriller is still in the script stage.

"It's not anywhere close to being ready. I don't write. I rewrite, but I don't write, so that always puts me at the mercy of some enormous talent that comes out of the woodwork that somehow has the same obsessions as me."

Jodie Foster can next be seen in Roman Polanski's latest God of Carnage.

Elysium comes to theaters August 9th, 2013 and stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, William Fichtner, Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga, Michael Shanks, Talisa Soto, Diego Luna. The film is directed by Neill Blomkamp.

Lost In Space was based on Swiss Family Robinson so she can do a variation on that theme for family and re-invented. Just saw Contact and still works. Beaver is getting kudos on her directing but that MEL backlash is killing the film itself. I hope she goes beyond this mess. PS I grew up on LIS and should remain a time piece and left there on TV. HATED the damn movie.

A family theme sci-fi film, I would so laugh if it turns out to be Lost in Space.

On another note I met some TV personalities the other day which have worked on Mad TV and a few other shows. I'm taking an Improv course that's why, lately I haven't been able to land a job.
I finally spoke to Michael Basset this past week, I won't be in S. H after all but he's going to consider me for another upcoming project.

@thedude-abides Ah, so you liked Contact as well. That seems to be a love it or hate it film with a lot of people.

I'll give it a shot. Contact was cool. This seems like something she might fare better at than what I'm thinking the Beaver will turn out to be.
