Joaquin Phoenix Returns to Acting in The Beautiful Cigar Girl

Joaquin Phoenix returns to acting
It seems that Joaquin Phoenix's recent retirement from acting hasn't suited the actor. Either that, or it was all a clever ploy in creating his upcoming rap documentary with Casey Affleck. In an interview with Mumbia Mirror, Oscar winning sound engineer Resul Pookutty, who won for his work on Slumdog Millionaire, announced that Phoenix, an Oscar-winning thespian himself, is set to return to the big screen sometime next year in an adaptation of Daniel Stashower's The Beautiful Cigar Girl. Pookutty is also working on the film.
Phoenix is set to play Edgar Allen Poe in The Beautiful Cigar Girl, which is based on an eerie real-life experience the author had just months before his death. The script is based on a true story that follows Poe's investigation in solving the mystery behind the brutal death of a beautiful society girl. The person behind the screenplay has not been revealed at this time, and there is no word on who will be directing the project.
There are no further details on the film at this time. We will keep you updated as more news on The Beautiful Cigar Girl breaks.
The Beautiful Cigar Girl is in development .

Yeah Dark Knight, That was funny. My favorite joke, was when Letterman says, "And I'm sorry that you couldn't be here".
I think Phoenix was channeling Andy Kaufman the whole time. Pretty pointless. He had gained some momentum and respect from his peers. And then to pull something like that, was stupid. At any rate, it was a bad call all around.
He probably just wanted to see if he could book some gigs, or have a laugh for pulling off the longest "Punk'd" joke, on the most people ever. Maybe this will be Borat part 2, and the joke was really on us. Remember...he is a great actor.

yeah, i know Phil that he is going to be in that, but my point is that he has only appeared in the good shepherd which was brief, in the last 11 years, since his announcement. People who retire can do volunteer work, but it doesnt mean they are still employed. the whole point, is that there are few that really do retire and mean it, i think in that span you could pretty much say pesci is retired even though he is doing another film.

True Todd89, but then again established actors, joe pesci, sean connery, and well rick moranis, have done it, and all accept pesci's small role in good shepherd, they have done it without being lured back into hollywood.

Oh, I didn't seem to believe that hype. Retirement in Hollywood means nothing, it's just a two week vacation.

Good to hear he's back...I was thinking that quitting/rapping stunt was just for publicity. Walk the Line came out on Blu Ray a few weeks back!
